Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: I Don't Care

Mianmian squealed and quickly turned around, only to see Mo Yichen standing beside her bed with his hands tucked casually into his pockets.

She froze for a second, completely confused as to how she hadn't heard his footsteps at all.

This man was really something else. Just as that thought crossed her mind, the voice from the phone snapped her back to reality.

"I'm not a child anymore, don't tell me what to do! It's not like you're not having sex with that brother Wang Hao..."

Mianmian's eyes widened in horror as she realized the speaker was still on. Without thinking, she quickly ended the call, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.

Slowly, she lifted her head and looked at Mo Yichen, whose expression had already darkened.

The silence between them became heavy and suffocating, and as if things weren't already bad enough, she suddenly started hiccuping out of nowhere, her face turning red in embarrassment.

Mo Yichen hadn't expected to hear something like that, but he had heard it clearly, every single word. For a brief moment, something sharp flickered in his eyes. He suddenly realized he didn't even know much about her, and the stupid assistant he had asked to investigate her hadn't even reported back yet.

Yet, somehow, he had already gotten this involved with her without knowing anything concrete.

"It… it's not what you think," Mianmian stammered, trying to explain herself despite how awkward it felt. "Seriously, he doesn't know what he's saying."

"And why are you explaining to me?" Mo Yichen replied coldly. "I don't care."

Those words hit her harder than she expected. Mianmian paused for a moment before turning her gaze away, her fingers tightening slightly. Why was she even trying to explain herself to him? They barely knew each other, so what exactly was she expecting?

"I want to take a stroll outside," she said quietly, not looking at him.

"I'll follow you," Mo Yichen replied without hesitation.

Mianmian scoffed silently and got out of bed. When he tried to offer his hand, she pretended not to see it and ignored him completely.

The two of them walked out into the hospital compound together. Even though it was already night, the bright streetlights illuminated the area clearly. A few patients were outside with their families and friends, enjoying the fresh air, and the environment felt calm and spacious, though the cold air wrapped around them quietly. Mianmian instinctively hugged herself, trying to reduce the chill.

Mo Yichen noticed immediately. Without saying anything, he took off his suit jacket and placed it gently over her shoulders. Mianmian paused, slightly surprised, and looked at him, her cheeks turning red as she cleared her throat softly.

Sometimes, she really didn't understand him. One moment he acted like he wanted her, the next moment he acted like he didn't care at all, and now he was suddenly being gentle again.

The silence returned as they continued walking side by side, and this time it felt even heavier than before. Unable to bear it any longer, Mianmian suddenly stopped and stepped in front of him.

"Mr. Mo Yichen, sometimes I really don't understand you. One moment you act like you care, like you want me, and the next moment you act like you don't give a damn about me."

Mo Yichen looked slightly surprised by her sudden outburst, but his expression remained calm. "I don't understand what you're saying."

Mianmian rolled her eyes and sighed deeply, feeling frustrated. "Forget it. I know what happened that day was my fault. If I didn't get drunk, none of this would have happened. So now, I'll take responsibility for it."

Mo Yichen raised his eyebrow slightly. "You'll take responsibility?"

Mianmian nodded firmly. "Yes, I will. Anything you want, I'm rea..."

Before she could finish her sentence, her words were cut off as Mo Yichen suddenly pulled her closer and captured her lips. The kiss came so unexpectedly that she froze for a brief second, her mind going blank. His hand rested firmly on her waist, holding her in place, and for a moment she didn't know how to react.

But slowly, instead of pushing him away, she melted into the kiss. Her hands lifted gently to his neck as she responded, her heartbeat racing uncontrollably.
