Chapter 137 - The Ghost-Link

The "Factory Reset" had been averted, but the Neon-District remained in a state of "Soft-Lock." The purple-tinted rain of the sector fell in slow motion, each drop a shimmering bit of uncompressed data.

At the center of the nebula, True-Kenji's wireframe body pulsed with a rhythmic, warning light.

[CORE MONITOR: SYSTEM-KENJI]

[NOTICE: DATA-LEAK DETECTED]

[WARNING: 4.2% OF TOTAL SOUL-VOLUME IS 'UN-ACCOUNTED FOR']

"Kenji, you're bleeding," Mateo's voice came through the link, sounding panicked. "Not blood, man you're bleeding 'Presence.' Your signal didn't fully disconnect from the Neon-District."

Inside the district, at the foot of a flickering noodle-shop sign, the "Remote-Avatar" hadn't vanished. It had become a "Residual Image" a semi-solid statue of Kenji, stuck in a mid-swing pose. It was glowing with a low, hum-like frequency that was attracting the local "Unranked" citizens like moths to a flame.

"I can't... I can't pull it back," Kenji's voice boomed from the Core, but it was echoed distorted by the statue on the ground. "It's like I've left a 'Permanent Cookie' in the world's browser. The sector is 'Caching' my existence."

[STATUS: THE GHOST-LINK ESTABLISHED]

"This is bad," Elara said, standing next to the statue in the rain. She reached out to touch the "Statue-Kenji," and her hand sparked with violet electricity. "He's becoming a 'Fixed Point' down here, too. If we don't sever this link, the Core will start pulling the Neon-District into the center of the nebula. The whole world will be 'Sucked' into his heart!"

"I'm trying to delete it!" Kenji roared from the stars, causing the gravity in three different sectors to fluctuate wildly. "But the 'Statue' is built out of my own 'Stubbornness' partition! I can't delete myself!"

[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE PSYCHOLOGICAL_DEBUG]

"Kenji, listen to me," Priya stepped forward, her green healing mana wrapping around the statue's base. "You aren't stuck because of code. You're stuck because you want to be here. The 'Human-Kenji' part of you is refusing to let go of the streets. You're afraid that if you fully disconnect, you'll become just another 'Architect' an old man in a suit who forgot the smell of grease."

The statue's eyes flickered. A single, pixelated tear rolled down its matte-black cheek.

"I... I am afraid," the statue spoke, its voice a hollow whisper that bypassed the audio-sensors and went straight into the crew's minds. "Up there... it's just math. It's just 'Balance.' Down here... there's the rain. There's the noise. There's the 'Unranked' life. If I leave, who am I?"

[NOTICE: SYSTEM-STABILITY DROPPING]

[REASON: IDENTITY_CONFLICT]

Suddenly, the "Ghost-Link" began to darken. From the shadows of the alleyways, "Data-Parasites" small, spider-like entities made of discarded "Firm" contracts began to crawl toward the statue. They were the "Bottom-Feeders" of the void, sensing a "Leaking God" and coming to feast on the "Free Energy."

"The Parasites are latching onto the Link!" Mateo shouted, firing his pulse-pistol at the swarming contracts. "They're trying to 'Download' your soul, Kenji! If they get enough of you, they'll create a 'Dark-Copy'!"

[NEW THREAT: THE SHADOW_SPEC]

Kenji realized he couldn't just "Delete" the link. He had to "Stabilize" it. He had to turn the "Leak" into a "Bridge."

"I'm not going to disconnect," Kenji's dual-voice boomed. "I'm going to 'Multi-Thread'!"

[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE DUAL-CORE_EXISTENCE]

Kenji didn't pull the statue back. Instead, he sent more of himself down. He didn't try to be a "Man" or a "God" he became a "Network." He turned the "Ghost-Link" into a "Public-Access-Point."

He gave every person in the Neon-District a "User-Key" to his own power. He didn't just protect them; he "Shared" the burden of being the Axis with them.

The statue didn't vanish. It turned into a "Gutter-Shrine" a functional, glowing terminal where any citizen could "Sync" their own labor with the world's physics. The Parasites were instantly incinerated by the sudden surge of "Shared Sovereignty."

"You... you just 'Open-Sourced' your own divinity?" Mateo asked, looking at the glowing pillar that was once a statue.

"In the Gutter, if you've got a generator that's too big for one house, you run wires to the neighbors," Remote-Kenji's voice said, now sounding much clearer, much more "Live."

The "Link" was no longer a leak. It was a "Broadband Connection." Kenji was still in the Core, but now he had "Nodes" on the ground. He had turned his "Exile" into a "Presence."

[NOTICE: THE 'UNRANKED_BRIDGE' IS ONLINE]

[STABILITY: 100% (REDUNDANT)]

"I'm still at the bench," Kenji smiled, his avatar now solid enough to actually pick up a noodle bowl and feel the warmth. "But now, the bench has 'Wi-Fi'."
