Chapter 87 - Quick Few Days

Layla and I finished talking and proceeded to get ready for the day. Once we were ready we drove to the warehouse.

There wasn't a whole lot we could do while we were waiting. The shop is always cleaned at the end of the day. The current project car is as far along as it can be. Layla could continue working on car parts, but without seeing how the internal components of the car parts work, there is no point. The progress would be quicker if she just waited.

Since that was the case we sat around watching Metube and surfing the web, waiting for the machinery to be delivered.

We waited for a few hours, we got lunch, and then waited some more.

The delivery arrived at 4:45 in the afternoon, the sun sets around 5:20. So, there wasn't much daylight left.

The machine that was brought was the metal 3D printer, which was a massive metal box. It came on a special wide load semitruck.

They took it off of the truck and had to use two forklifts at the same time to barely carry it over to the right spot.

The metal 3D printer was huge. You could park a car inside of it and still have a little room left over.

It was delivered with a plastic seal covering the whole thing as well as a bubble wrap layer on top. That meant that it would be fine outside for one night.

I contacted the building guys and let them know that they could start tomorrow.

With that done Layla and I could go home.

At home we watched a few more movies before going to sleep.

The next morning I was up early for a full day.

Layla and I were at the warehouse at 6:30, we basically woke up and drove straight here. Completely forgoing breakfast, however we were still later than the building guys.

It took them 4 hours to build one building last time. However, this time they brought way more people, each building only took one hour to go up.

Once the first building was up, Layla and I got to work putting the solar panels on. I had them delivered bright and early.

It was a long day, nine hours of work with an hour lunch break. Even working in poor lighting conditions wasn't a problem since the guys brought lights.

Layla and I decided to unbox the metal 3D printer tomorrow because the both of us were way too tired to get into it today.

We ended the day with Mexikan take out.

The next morning we woke up, got ready, and left the house, picking up breakfast on the way. When we got to the warehouse we saw that the scanners were being delivered which delayed the unboxing another day.

The scanners came with both surface and penetration scanners. The scanners I chose came with a rail system and mount.

Layla and I spent the day attaching the rail system to the frame of the warehouse. Then mounting the scanners together and getting the motors working so that the scanners could zip around the warehouse and scan anything inside.

That proved to be tedious and annoying since the task involved soldering as well as micro testing everything. But, by the end of the day we managed to get the scanners working.

Another day quickly down the drain.

Another morning, we were up and at the warehouse. I was bracing myself for another thing that would show up and ruin my plans for the day. But, nothing happened, until it did.

After unboxing, or unwrapping the metal 3D printer we realized that the power consumption was too much for the current solar powered system.

I told Layla, "Look, I just need to spend some time optimizing them and then they will work great. Just like I did for the others. Why don't we scan the cars today and get working on that. The materials haven't even been delivered yet. So, it's not like we would have been able to use the metal 3D printer today anyway."

Layla replied, "Sure! Actually I would prefer that. Now I get to see just how these things work!"

Me, "Yep, now you have to be careful of the rain. Try not to get too wet."

Layla, "I'll try."

Now that all of the warehouses have been built we can properly store and house our things. The one down side is that we have 10 different warehouses with open air between them. Which means on days like today if you go from one warehouse to another you are bound to get wet.

Yep, today was a rainy day, which was only adding to the power shortage. On sunny days there was no problem, but on rainy or overcast days there was bound to be a shortage. We currently have enough to run everything, except for the metal 3D printer.

Which needs more than the entire current system can provide, even on a sunny day.

But after a few upgrades we should be fine.

The warehouse to the left of the car workshop was the car showroom and our personal garage.

So, we were able to move all of the cars inside and not let them get rained on. It was about time we got Layla's car out of the elements. As well as the truck Layla had just fixed up, we couldn't let it become a rust bucket again.

That would defeat the purpose of what we were trying to accomplish.

Layla got the Cancry into position in the scanning warehouse and I helped by setting up the computer connection. That way when the scanners scanned it would be uploaded to the computer and rendered into the 3D software.

Then you could project it in the AR glasses, run it through simulations, or whatever else you wanted.

Once that was done Layla tried out the scanner and it worked exactly as envisioned. The scanner was able to render a fully built model, inside and out into the computer.

Now if the metal 3D printer worked as it should I could print another car.

Well, without the plastic, rubber, fabric, leather, or any other non metal part of the car. And considering engines have rubber gaskets that throws a wrench into those plans. But, only for the time being.

I have plans…
