Chapter 134: The Working Man, Yu Xiaogang
"Are these corpses enough?" Flender and Zhao Wuji dragged several beast carcasses over to Yu Xiaogang.
One was a two-thousand-year-old spirit beast, and three were century-old beasts—this was the result of half an hour of hunting.
Yu Xiaogang frowned slightly as he looked down at the bodies. Only four. Back in the graveyard of Soto City, he had sacrificed at least dozens.
"Barely enough. Bring them into the ritual circle," Yu Xiaogang said with a hint of dissatisfaction, though he didn't ask them to continue hunting.
For now, he only needed Flender and Zhao Wuji to witness the power of the Primordial God. The quality of the offerings wasn't too important.
Flender and Zhao Wuji made no objections and dragged the four corpses to the center of the sigil.
Yu Xiaogang and Tang San drew their daggers and plunged them into the bodies, letting the blood flow freely.
The magic circle on the ground had been pre-drawn but still needed to be traced over with fresh blood.
Under the curious eyes of Flender and Zhao Wuji, the two carefully painted the runes in crimson.
When they finished, Yu Xiaogang wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked up at them.
"It's ready. You two can step inside," Yu Xiaogang told them.
Flender and Zhao Wuji exchanged uneasy glances. After a few seconds of hesitation, they stepped in.
"Repeat after me when I start chanting," Yu Xiaogang ordered as he and Tang San stepped outside the circle.
Seeing this, Flender grew nervous and immediately stepped back out. "You're not joining us?"
"These offerings are too weak," Yu Xiaogang replied smoothly. "Your spirit power is much higher; if we joined in too, the energy gain would be too small."
Flender didn't look reassured. The situation felt suspicious—Yu Xiaogang stepping back made it look like the real sacrifices weren't the beasts, but him.
"Flender, what are you afraid of? You're a Spirit Saint—don't tell me you've lost your courage," Yu Xiaogang said impatiently.
Flender gave an embarrassed laugh, suppressing his unease. He was indeed a Spirit Saint—an agility-type master famed for his speed. If danger arose, he could simply fly away.
And after all their years of friendship, he couldn't believe Yu Xiaogang would actually harm him.
So he stepped back into the circle.
"Good. Now repeat after me," Yu Xiaogang said sternly.
Flender and Zhao Wuji straightened their faces.
"Primordial God, please accept our offering…"
…
As Yu Xiaogang began his chant, the other two imitated him word for word.
The blood-drawn sigil began to glow with a sinister red light. The corpses of the beasts liquefied into blood, dissolving entirely.
The energy rose into the air as a thick, swirling red mist that spiraled over the circle.
Flender and Zhao Wuji stared, eyes wide—but as Spirit Saints, they kept their composure and continued chanting.
The blood mist soon began descending, silently weaving itself into their bodies.
Both men immediately felt a surge of pure energy entering them.
Shocked, they realized their own spirit power was stirring violently—growing stronger as the mist was absorbed.
When the ritual ended, Flender and Zhao Wuji exchanged looks of disbelief.
"My spirit power… it really rose!" Flender gasped after concentrating for a moment.
The improvement wasn't enough to raise his rank, but the gain was real—it felt as substantial as a month of intense training.
"I improved too!" Zhao Wuji said excitedly.
Just like Flender, his new power felt completely pure, as though it had been cultivated naturally.
"Well? I didn't lie to you, did I?" Yu Xiaogang smiled proudly.
Both men nodded.
He smiled in satisfaction before his expression hardened.
"Now that you've witnessed the truth, you are followers of the Primordial God. To strengthen yourselves through sacrifice, you'll need corpses no older than twenty-four hours."
"Since Tang San and I can't handle powerful beasts, hunting will be your job."
"No problem!" Flender agreed immediately, though his expression became cautious. "But Xiao Gang, even if this works, using spirit beast flesh for strength is forbidden in the Spirit Master world."
Yu Xiaogang understood his worry. "I know. That's why from now on, we must perform the ritual discreetly. Don't speak of this to anyone else."
Both Flender and Zhao Wuji nodded in agreement.
…
Back at Blue Tyrant Academy, Luo Ling lounged in his chair watching Ning Rongrong and the others train. Suddenly, a wave of energy rippled through his body.
His spirit power increased slightly, though most of the energy flowed into his martial soul.
He knew exactly why—Yu Xiaogang's group had gone to the Sunset Forest, and he could feel their sacrifices feeding the Primordial power.
Ever since his martial soul transformed following the descent of the Primordial God's Trial, most sacrificial energy reached and merged with his spirit instead.
Only a small portion strengthened his own power—but even that small amount was impressive.
A content smile appeared on his face. Merely in one afternoon, his cultivation had advanced as though he'd trained for months.
"Not bad," he thought, amused. "Feels pretty good having people work to raise my power for me."
While Luo Ling basked in his quiet satisfaction, the Sunset Forest was a scene of noisy slaughter.
That same afternoon, Flender and Zhao Wuji had killed nearly ten spirit beasts, ranging from hundred-year to thousand-year grade.
All four participants had improved, gaining power equivalent to several months of cultivation.
"No, these beasts are too weak," Yu Xiaogang muttered irritably. "The power gain is still too small."
"Come on, Xiao Gang, it's already incredible! One afternoon equals half a year of training!" Flender said cheerfully, Zhao Wuji nodding in agreement.
Yu Xiaogang shook his head. "Enough. Let's return to the academy for now."
