Chapter 147 - Chapter 147: Searching for the Phoenix? What About a Chicken Instead?

Chapter 147: Searching for the Phoenix? What About a Chicken Instead?

Tang San's brief worry soon faded. He reminded himself that his concern was unnecessary.

"With your mother and father's protection, with Da Ming and Er Ming guarding his side, plus my own divine will and the Sea God's Trident suppressing him—and with my millennia-long plan already in motion—nothing can go wrong. Once Douluo Continent fully devours the Abyssal Plane, it will evolve."

"He will inherit the God Seat of Destruction that originally belonged to the Golden Dragon King. When that day comes, he will rise as a new God King."

"My thousands-of-years plan will not fail."

"My son… our reunion is not far away."

Though the Golden Dragon King had emerged only briefly before being slain and sealed by him—with help from Kindness and Evil—Tang San had planned everything from the start.

This was but one part of his grand design.

As for future god-level beings arising after Douluo's evolution? Tang San was not concerned.

Without the Divine Realm or the sacred celestial essence, any so-called godhood would still be false.

Even if a mortal possessed power comparable to a God King, without divine aura, their lifespan would crumble like dust.

Ten thousand years had passed—and still, no true gods had appeared on the continent.

Nothing could stir the order he had set.

When the Divine Realm returned, everything would remain under his control.

"Still…"

A flicker of darkness gleamed behind the Sea God's calm blue eyes.

Were it not for the loss of the Golden Dragon Spear, he would never have had to leave such a precious artifact within Tang Wulin's body as a seal for the Golden Dragon King.

Splitting the Shura God's essence had diminished him deeply. Even with the Shura Sword, it wasn't as natural in his grasp as the Sea God's Trident.

Truthfully, though he held two divinities, the one he preferred was clear—the Sea God's mantle fit him perfectly.

"With my God King-level version of the Xuan Tian Technique, I will raise the Sea God's power to stand equal with the throne of a God King."

"Douluo Continent… soon, I—Tang San—shall descend again."

"My son… wait for me."

Meanwhile, his son was busy with far more worldly affairs.

"Senior Sister, have some grilled fish!"

While the God King pondered prophecy, Tang Wulin was burning another skewer over the campfire.

Unfortunately, without Huo Yuhao's legendary cooking, his culinary skills failed to win Ouyang Zixin's heart.

She watched him follow her around relentlessly like a devoted puppy. No—like a shadow she couldn't shake off.

She'd rejected him numerous times already, yet he persisted.

She honestly didn't know when this boy became so shameless.

And yet… he had indeed caught her attention.

Anyone capable of single-handedly killing a ten-thousand-year-old dragon-blooded beast wasn't ordinary.

Such raw potential was worth clinging to—if she dared.

But she knew herself. Her martial soul was modest, nothing exceptional. If not for her talent in mecha design, she wouldn't have qualified for Douluo University at all.

The stronger Wulin became, the further out of reach he seemed.

Especially with her best friend in the picture.

Ouyang Zixin didn't even want to imagine what Mu Xi would do to her if she ever accepted Wulin's feelings.

She shuddered. One wrong word—and she'd be "disqualified" by her best friend overnight.

Looking at Tang Wulin, who was still enthusiastically fanning the fire, her headache grew worse.

Stupid Mu Xi—so fierce toward others, yet too scared to confess first.

You like him? Then step up already! Stop cowering!

"Senior Sister! Look—perfectly grilled!"

Ouyang Zixin gave a weary smile but quietly stepped aside to Mu Xi's side.

"Here, it's done!" Mu Xi said proudly as she turned one on a stick. "I swear, no mistakes this time!"

Ouyang Zixin sighed inwardly. Bless this oblivious fool.

Then, from behind, Sima Jinchi's voice rang out through the clearing.

"Congratulations on completing your first trial. Next, we begin the second—the Trial of the Phoenix."

His tone was calm, his aura completely restrained.

No one present could sense that this seemingly mild instructor had recently ascended to a Super Douluo in a single day.

Letting that secret slip would only cause endless trouble, even with Di Tian as his master.

"Wait, what trial did you just say?"

Xie Xie rubbed his ears, thinking he'd heard wrong.

"Find… the phoenix?"

Everyone else mirrored his baffled look.

Tracking a dragon-blooded creature wasn't too hard—they had plenty of clues for that.

But a phoenix?

No one had ever actually seen one.

Martial spirits, sure—but the creature itself? Myths, at best.

Le Zhengyu glanced at Qian Gu Zhangting, hoping the heir of the Spirit Transmission Tower might have an answer.

But Zhangting looked equally blank.

The phoenix? What even was that?

He muttered, "I've never even seen one recorded in any archive."

Indeed, dragon-type beasts thrived in countless forms, but there had never been proof of an actual phoenix-blooded soul beast existing.

It was as if they'd been wiped from history—leaving only martial spirits bearing a diluted echo of their blood.

"Well, that's that," Xie Xie said with a groan. "If there really were a phoenix in Phoenix Mountain, don't you think the Federation or Spirit Transmission Tower would've already secured it? They'd have locked it up as a national treasure ages ago!"

A creature that rare wouldn't be left wandering free.

"Instructor, are you seriously trolling us right now?"

Xie Xie shot Sima Jinchi a doubtful glare. He suspected this "assignment" was just revenge for them breezing through the first one.

But Sima Jinchi only gave a faint look toward Gu Yue and Tang Wulin before shaking his head.

"This isn't a punishment. Every freshman class has the same mission. You don't need to find a real phoenix—simply gather any signs or traces of one acknowledged by the Federation, and the exam will count as passed."

"You're already ahead since you cleared your first trial quickly."

"Yeah, great advantage," Xie Xie muttered under his breath. "As long as the Federation's the one deciding what counts, that's super fair."

He complained, but a mission was a mission.

Worst case scenario—they'd just find a few chickens, dress them up with fiery feathers, and hope no one looked too closely.

After all, who really knew what phoenix blood looked like anymore?

"Then do we have any lead or clue? Phoenix Mountain's enormous—you expect us to wander blindly?"

If the Federation and the Tower hadn't found a phoenix in a century, what chance did a bunch of students have?

Still, the rules were the rules. Two months to complete their search—otherwise, automatic failure.

Genius. Truly inspired exam design.

At best, this trial was impossible.

No one looked optimistic.

Jiang Chen quietly tugged Gu Yue's sleeve.

"Hey, be honest—does Phoenix Mountain really have a phoenix?"

Gu Yue gave him a sideways glance, clearly unimpressed by his ignorance.

He couldn't be blamed, though. Even as a million-year soul beast, he was still bound to the continent—its history of divine beasts lay far beyond his reach.

Her tone was calm. "There are no phoenixes here."

"In ancient times, our Dragon Clan and the Phoenix Clan were equals. But the Dragon God slew the Phoenix God and wiped out every last phoenix. Since then, no creature with phoenix blood has survived."

Jiang Chen frowned. "Then… why? The Dragon God and Phoenix God were both peak deities, weren't they? What could drive them to fight?"

"For the Divine Realm, maybe?"

Gu Yue's gaze drifted, ancient memories stirring behind those silvering eyes.
