Anu;
"It matters to me." I snap
The words slip out before I can stop them.
We both freeze.
I feel my cheeks heat up, and I quickly look back down, focusing on the cotton in my hand like it suddenly holds all the secrets of the universe.
"…I live in your house… If you get tetanus, that affects me." Like that makes sense, or will cover up what I just blurted.
He huffs quietly.
I finish wrapping his hand, then reach up slightly.
"Your face…"
"It's fine." He replies as he pulls away.
"Zane."
"It's—"
"I won't take no for an answer." I cut him off, and he goes still.
He stares at me in silence for a second, and then, slowly, he leans forward just enough.
I clean the bruise gently, while he watches me.
I refuse to look up from the bruise, but I can feel it.
His gaze.
It's heavy. So focused on me that my heart starts beating faster.
Why is he looking at me like that?
"Done," I say quickly, pulling back and standing so fast I wobble.
