Chapter 69 - The Fierce Debate

Wolvin, full of enthusiasm, stood by Calian's side, awaiting the presence of the receptionist who came out from the room behind the door in front of them. The black tail of the Night Wolf youth wagged slowly left and right, radiating the anticipation of a beginner who was about to receive the results of his first hard work.

Not long after, the beautiful woman in the official guild uniform came out of the room bringing a wooden tray in her hands.

"This is your reward for completing to pick and gather 25 Silver Dew Leaf herbal plants." said the receptionist while placing down the tray on top of which there was one brown cloth pouch and also the adventurer license cards of the two of them. "Everything is 550 Len."

Even though the amount was small, Calian and Wolvin accepted the money happily. This was the first money they purely earned from their own sweat in this empire.

Usually, Wolvin would immediately take the money and move it into his dimensional storage necklace. However this time, suddenly Wolvin turned his head and looked at his husband's face. "Darling, may I keep this money pouch?"

"Just what do you want to keep that money for?" asked Calian confusedly.

"I want to make this money pouch as our first memory of carrying out our first mission here!" answered Wolvin, his eyes radiating a meaningful hope as he looked at his husband. He wanted to keep the pouch containing 550 Len entirely as a small trophy of the new page of their lives.

Calian could only sigh and did not expect to hear such a sweet and sentimental request from his cute spouse.

"Just keep it, I do not mind it." replied Calian softly, staring intently at his spouse's eyes. "If it can make you feel happy, then I will not mind."

Hearing the answer of his husband giving him permission, Wolvin immediately smiled brightly. He took the brown-colored money pouch carefully from the tray and immediately stored it inside his dimensional storage necklace.

"Thank you, Darling!" said Wolvin happily.

The receptionist could only fall silent hearing the conversation that happened between the two of them but still did not want to interfere because it was very contrary to the unwritten rule that applied in the guild: never interfere in the personal affairs of adventurers.

After the matter of the reward was finished, Wolvin placed the parchment he had just pulled from the mission board on the desk.

"Can I take this mission?"

The receptionist was instantly snapped out of her silence. Her eyes looked down and read the details of the mission parchment that was on the desk. She widened her eyes and could not believe that the mission chosen by the beastfolk from the Night Wolf clan in front of her was the mission to hunt the Yellow Bee monster, a mission with a rank C danger level.

"I apologize, but you may not take a mission that is far above your current rank which is still rank F." refused the woman politely but very firmly. She pushed the parchment back towards Wolvin. "Please return that mission to its original place."

The smile on Wolvin's face slowly faded.

"What did you say? You do not believe me?!" replied Wolvin quickly, his tone of voice starting to rise. "Register that mission right now!"

"Once again I apologize, this is not a matter of believing or not." The woman still refused and did not want to register it for the safety of beginners. "The guild rules forbid it."

So it was with Wolvin who was still adamant with his stance of wanting to take the mission because he knew he had already completed it.

A fierce debate between the two of them occurred until it slowly attracted the attention of all the guild staff and the adventurers in the lobby. Several veteran adventurers started glancing toward the registration desk.

"You still will not allow me?" exclaimed Wolvin with a fairly loud voice, feeling annoyed because of the rigid bureaucracy.

"I still will not register it!" replied the receptionist, her voice no less loud than Wolvin's because she felt cornered but still had to carry out safety protocols. "The two of you are still rank F how could I-"

"Shut up!" cut Wolvin firmly, not wanting to let the woman finish her condescending sentence. "You should not judge people by their covers."

Wolvin who already felt out of patience and very annoyed stepped back a little. He touched and channeled his mana to the necklace that was on his neck, then took out the two-meter-sized Yellow Bee carcass from inside there.

Thud! Crash!

The sound of very loud breaking wood was heard echoing throughout the lobby. The weight and size of that large monster's body lying on top of the reception desk instantly made the solid wooden desk shatter into a mess. Papers flew and wood splinters scattered on the floor.

The woman stumbled back two steps. She was incredibly shocked to see the headless giant Yellow Bee body already right before her eyes, still emitting the thick smell of the monster's acidic liquid. The entire guild lobby suddenly fell silent.

"I already said, give that mission to me!" said Wolvin firmly, staring sharply from across the ruins of the desk. "If we felt unable to do it, it is impossible for me to take that mission!"

The receptionist who was previously silenced in shock immediately swallowed hard and looked at Wolvin with a mixed gaze between fear and amazement.

"I apologize, I still will not register it even though you have killed that monster because of the rules." said the woman with a trembling voice but still insisted on the absolute rules.

"What did you say?" Wolvin widened his eyes, getting more annoyed because the mission was still not registered even though the proof was already very clear. "Is this not already proof that the two of us have defeated it? Are you going to corrupt the reward of that mission?"

"How could I dare to do that!" dodged the receptionist firmly, defending her integrity as guild staff. She pointed toward the giant carcass. "You will still get a reward because you have killed that monster but not for the mission! System rules are still rules and they are absolute! I cannot put a rank C mission completion into your rank F cards!"

Hearing the explanation that the money would still be paid out even though the mission status was not recorded on the card, the veins of anger on Wolvin's face instantly disappeared, and he immediately acted casually.

"Is that so? Please give the reward to us." said Wolvin, his voice suddenly changing to be very friendly and casual with his innocent expression, as if the fierce debate and his action that had destroyed the desk just now never happened.

The woman could only gape looking at the Night Wolf youth in front of her. Someone who initially was so angry to the point of taking out a giant monster carcass, but suddenly acted casually and smiled just because of the certainty of the reward money.

What is this beastfolk thinking about? thought the woman wonderingly, her brain finding it difficult to process such a fast and drastic change of character. I truly do not understand his train of thought.
