Ian Quincy felt terrible. How could he have pushed his own wife? "Push me against the wall, too."
"You said it." Cecilia Adler didn't hold back. Using all her strength, she sent his back crashing into the wall with a soft thud. She said, "We're even now."
Ian Quincy said, "It didn't hurt at all."
Cecilia Adler blinked, feigning concern. "Well, what should we do then? I can't exactly take a knife to you, can I? I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'd hate to see you get hurt. Besides, I didn't really mind the push. You don't have to let it bother you."
This made Ian Quincy feel even more guilty. He promised earnestly, "Next time, I absolutely will control my emotions."
"Okay, I believe you. I'll get you a peach." Like she was presenting a treasure, Cecilia Adler took a peach as large as a bowl from a low kitchen cabinet. She gave it a quick rinse under the faucet and handed it to him. "Have a taste. It's delicious."
