Cecilia Adler grinned. The man picked out a crucian carp weighing over three pounds and charged her two yuan.
Holding the fish and the change she got back, she prepared to leave.
She didn't know that a middle-aged man had been watching her as she paid. He now approached her. "Miss, interested in some Copper Coins? Only ten cents each."
The fishmonger chimed in, "You can't use Copper Coins to buy anything, yet you're charging ten cents for one? Ten cents can get you a bowl of soy sauce and a bowl of vinegar, enough to last a family for two or three months."
"I was asking the young lady, not you. Miss, want to take a look? These are all antiques. If you collect them, you're guaranteed to sell them for a profit later."
"If they're so profitable, why don't you collect them yourself?" the fishmonger couldn't help but retort. "You just think she's easy to trick because she's young, don't you?"
