Joan Shaw woke up very early the next day. She had promised to knit a scarf for Miles Xavier and to "take" her birth control pill ahead of time.
When Miles Xavier opened his eyes, she was already curled up on the sofa, having knitted half the scarf.
A cream-colored blanket covered her legs, and a ball of gray yarn was rolling on the floor. Her movements as she knitted were skilled and swift.
"Achoo! Achoo!" In the middle of her work, she sneezed a few times. Miles Xavier quickly got out of bed, walked over to sit beside her, and took her hand. His brows furrowed. "Why are your hands so cold?"
The heating in the room was strong, and the indoor thermometer showed the temperature was 20°C, which was perfectly comfortable.
Joan Shaw quickly pulled her hand back. "My whole body gets cold if I sit still for too long. It's nothing. Once the scarf is done, I'll get up and move around."
