Seraphina closed the door behind her.
"Then you already know something has changed."
The old man lifted his eyes from the book and studied her carefully.
"You look troubled."
Seraphina stepped closer to the table as she said, "Lyra's powers have awakened."
For the first time, the old man's expression shifted.
"Awakened?" he repeated slowly.
"She lost control," Seraphina continued. "The suppression spells broke faster than I expected. Her aura is growing stronger by the hour."
The old man closed his book.
"And the wolves?"
"They are already circling," she replied. "The council has summoned me tonight."
Silence settled between them for a moment.
Then the old man leaned back in his chair and sighed.
"I warned you," he said quietly. "I warned you from the very beginning not to involve yourself in that child's life."
Seraphina didn't look away.
"I promised Gemma," she said firmly. "I told her I would never let anything happen to her daughter."
The old man's gaze sharpened.
