"Is that… high-level magic?"
Mu Nujiao gazed at the enormous Ice Dragon soaring across the sky, her eyes shining with awe and longing.
Since such power had appeared, she naturally assumed it must be the work of one of the school's teachers.
Ai Tutu, who had finally snapped out of her shock, suddenly frowned. "Sister Mu, why do I feel like that ice dragon looks kind of familiar?"
Mu Nujiao blinked. "You feel it too? That aura… I've definitely sensed it somewhere before."
But she couldn't recall which Ice Element teacher possessed such a powerful magic presence.
In the sky, the thirty-meter-long Ice Dragon clashed violently with the Mother of a Hundred Venoms.
The impact shook the air, scattering shards of frozen mist in every direction.
The frigid air instantly slowed the giant centipede's movements.
Within moments, the Ice Dragon had wrapped around the poisonous creature's body, constricting tightly.
Ever since obtaining the Ice Ring, Mu Nianbing had been storing vast amounts of Ice Element magic energy inside it — and now, that preparation paid off.
He had used only twenty percent of the Ice Ring's stored energy to condense this Ice Dragon. If he unleashed it all, he could summon five dragons of equal might.
But against this poisonous queen, one was more than enough.
The Ice Dragon roared, its jaws snapping down on the centipede's head and neck, tearing through its chitinous armor.
Under the relentless assault and the deepening frost, the Queen of a Hundred Venoms lost its strength to resist and finally crashed to the ground, completely frozen over.
"How… how is this possible!?" The Blue-Robed Deacon's pupils contracted in disbelief.
Even if Mu Nianbing had absorbed the entire Holy Spring of Earth, his cultivation should only have reached the High-Level Mage tier at best.
Yet the destructive power of this Ice Dragon far surpassed that—its might was comparable to Second-Tier High-Level Magic!
"No… this commotion will definitely draw the school's attention. I have to retreat!"
He gritted his teeth. Failing the mission would earn him punishment, but staying would mean certain death.
As he turned to flee, a sharp whistle cut through the air.
"Bang!"
An ice spear half a meter long smashed into his armor, carving a deep crack across his chest plate.
"Going somewhere?" Mu Nianbing stepped forward, his eyes cold as frost.
If it weren't for the Ice Ring's reserve power, dealing with the Queen of a Hundred Venoms would have been nearly impossible.
The deacon snarled, "Boy, I don't want to kill you. Get out of my way!"
He barely finished speaking before a volley of more than a dozen ice lances whistled toward him.
Mu Nianbing wasn't interested in words. If not for conserving energy, he would've unleashed a Mysterious Ice Dragon Fly right then and there.
There was no need to defeat this man — only to stall for time until Dean Xiao and the other instructors arrived.
The deacon's armor shattered further under the icy barrage. He roared, his patience snapping.
"Courting death!"
Behind him, a sinister green constellation flared into existence.
Judging by how quickly the pattern formed, Mu Nianbing could tell—this man's cultivation wasn't low.
He was at least a High-Level Mage of the Third Element.
"Ghostwood Grasp!"
Thick, spectral vines burst from the ground, writhing toward Mu Nianbing like serpents.
But before they could strike, a torrent of fireballs rained from above, engulfing the area where the Blue-Robed Deacon stood.
The ghostly vines withered instantly under the searing flames.
"How dare you attack our Mingzhu Academy!"
A booming voice echoed from the sky. A moment later, a middle-aged man landed beside Mu Nianbing, wreathed in fire.
It was Wei Rong, Head of the Fire Department of the Main Campus.
Mu Nianbing recognized him — they had met once or twice during his visits to the Fire Department.
Since the students were currently on break, the department heads had been free to oversee the exam — and it was fortunate they had.
Moments later, Dean Xiao, Teacher Baimei, and several other instructors appeared, surrounding the battlefield.
The deacon's face turned grim. With so many powerful mages present, escape was impossible.
Wei Rong took a step forward to restrain him, but the deacon suddenly pulled a black pill from his sleeve and shoved it into his mouth.
A suicide pill — better death than capture.
But before the poison could take effect, Dean Xiao raised his hand.
Without even moving, he summoned a gentle wave of spiritual energy that drew the pill straight from the man's mouth into his palm.
"Not on my watch," Dean Xiao said calmly.
Taking advantage of the moment, Wei Rong moved like a flash of fire and struck the deacon in the chest, knocking him down.
Teacher Baimei immediately sealed his cultivation with a flurry of glowing sigils.
The Blue-Robed Deacon of the Black Vatican — captured alive.
"Mu Nianbing, you did well," Dean Xiao said with a warm smile. "If you hadn't held him off, the consequences could have been disastrous."
Mu Nianbing bowed slightly. "This is my duty, Dean."
Even so, his expression remained solemn. This encounter had been a harsh reminder.
Tang Yue's warning had been right all along — the Black Vatican truly had their eyes on him.
Fortunately, with Lei having advanced to the Sub-Monarch level, and the Cangming Jiao nearing Commander rank, he could at least protect himself even if the enemy sent a Super-Level mage next time.
"Teacher Baimei," Mu Nianbing said after a pause, "my summoned beast was poisoned during the battle. Could you help treat it?"
Teacher Baimei waved a hand dismissively. "I'm not exactly a veterinarian," he said with a wry smile — but still knelt down beside the injured Cangming Jiao.
A gentle glow flowed from his palms as he purged the toxins and mended the creature's wounds.
"The poison's been neutralized, but for full recovery, you'll need to replenish its magic energy."
Mu Nianbing nodded and transferred a large portion of his summoning energy to the Cangming Jiao.
The creature's breathing steadied, its scales regaining their sheen.
When the Si Ye Ruling Formation was finally deactivated, the other students regrouped one by one.
The battlefield was still covered in frost from the earlier Ice Dragon, leaving everyone stunned by what had taken place.
"Mu Nianbing… that Ice Dragon just now," Ai Tutu asked hesitantly, "that was you, wasn't it?"
As she spoke, she sensed the same cold, majestic aura radiating from him — identical to what the Ice Dragon had released earlier.
Mu Nujiao stood silently beside her, her expression unreadable.
If the dragon had truly been summoned by Mu Nianbing… didn't that mean he was already a High-Level Mage?
Until now, only Dean Fu and Ding Yumian had known of Mu Nianbing's true cultivation. Even Guo Liyu had only guessed.
Mu Nianbing didn't bother hiding it anymore. He simply nodded. "Yes. It was me."
A ripple of shock spread through the crowd.
Ai Tutu's jaw dropped. "Huh?! I thought my brother's talent was already insane, but this… you're a monster!"
Mu Nujiao looked at Mu Nianbing, her heart heavy with a mix of admiration and pressure.
She had trained relentlessly, but compared to him, her efforts suddenly felt so small.
Around them, the other students could only stare in disbelief.
They had heard the rumors — but now they knew the truth.
Mu Nianbing wasn't just talented.
He was extraordinary — a High-Level Mage who had summoned an Ice Dragon that shook the entire academy.
