Chapter 28 - Inner Demons

My bout with Blanc dragged on, our blades clashed in silent rage as we exchanged slash after slash. Thirteen minutes had passed since our swords began to clash. No matter how hard I struck, he could withstand it.

" I haven't finished gauging his strength yet, a strong and flashy attack will only leave me open to a fatal counter".

As we clashed, I failed to notice something familiar about his movements. The way he moved, the way he struck and parried my strikes, it was almost the same way I fought. I had to know how he could mimic my movements with such efficacy. Curiosity took over, I simply had to see his stats.

Now that I knew his tricks, I realized I had to play a game of minds if I wished to leave with the girl and myself alive.

" Halo Arts! Heavenly Divide! "

I split myself into seven copies of my personality. With this, I could ensure unpredictability and mess with his Mimicking Shadow skill.

" If I knew my mimicry magic trivia, any type of mimicry magic ever, worked on the fundamental property of one target at a time.

Hence, if I can switch from body to body with heavenly Divide, I can make one of his skills useless.

Although I mustn't overlook his foresight skill either. I'd have to move faster than his perception can handle".

At that moment, I knew what I had to do.

" No more holding back! ", I said to myself, charging at Blanc in unison with my seven body doubles. He took a standard lateral slash stance to try and put off the rhythm of the attack.

However, I had seen through his plan, with a swift swap from rom my first clone to my original body, I closed the gap faster, slamming his gut hard with the swift motion of my sword as I unsheathed it. The battle was but decided, Blanc pinned to cold soil as I held the dark sheen of the Darkened Phantom Edge to his neck.

" As I said, you won't be leaving alive ".

I was prepared to do whatever it took for my peaceful quiet life, even if it meant taking the life of another. Or so I thought.

" [ Thinking to himself ]: could it be? Are my inner Demons that rowdy for blood?! Am I just angryi didn't have such strength in my past life? Do I really need to kill him?".

I still had questions to ask Blanc, I wanted to know who among the holy knights sent him, why he was asked to cause so much damage and why said holy knight need my father's village burnt?

Was it a martyr to other rebels? Or perhaps a silly game to them.

I took out a dagger and decided to peel off Blanc's mask. However, the masked would not come off.

" HAHAHAHA! Don't make me laugh!! You think my masters would be so dumb!? Those who choose the path of apostles are bound by the Creed of Secrecy. We remain faceless, our roles marred by the colours we dawn. I am The blank canvas, the destroyer to pave new paths, the literal definition of a white slate, a fresh start after destruction, I AM BLANC!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! "
