"We should have finished the hunt."
I said it the moment we appeared in the chamber, already moving toward the table while Lucian laid the cloaked man down with far less care than the situation probably deserved.
Zade glanced at me, one brow lifting slightly. "You're still thinking about that thing?"
"It got away," I replied. "That alone makes it irritating."
"It also led us to this," he said, gesturing toward the body. "I would say that makes it worth the trouble."
Lucian didn't bother looking up. "You can both argue about the hunt later. Right now, we deal with him."
I exhaled through my nose but stepped closer anyway, my attention settling on the wound now that we were no longer chasing anything through the sky.
"Should have left him," I said after a moment. "Whatever did that to him would have finished the job."
Lucian adjusted the man's position, his hand pressing briefly against the injury. "We don't leave things we don't understand behind."
