I couldn't let it go.
Julian was innocent. I knew it. Felt it in my bones. But knowing and proving were different things.
So while Damian handled board meetings and Marcus ran digital forensics, I did what I was good at. I talked to people.
Started with Julian's assistant. Amy. Twenty-four. Smart. Nervous when I showed up at her desk.
"Mrs. Voss." She stood. Too fast. Knocked over her coffee. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were coming."
"Relax. I'm not here to fire anyone." I helped her clean up the spill. "I want to ask about Julian."
Her face closed off. "I can't talk about that. HR said..."
"HR said not to speculate. I'm not asking you to speculate. I'm asking about his schedule." I sat on the edge of her desk. Casual. "The files were accessed at two am on multiple occasions. Was Julian ever here that late?"
"Never." She said it immediate. "He's strict about work-life balance. Leaves by six. Doesn't come in on weekends."
"You're sure?"
