Chapter 37 - The Library of the Unclaimed

The Icarus docked with a screech of metal on metal. As the hatch opened, the air of the station rushed in,it was cold, dry, and smelled like dust and static electricity.

"We need resonance to refuel," Caius said, stepping onto the rusted platform. "But this place... it feels like a vacuum. There's no emotion here. It's been drained dry."

They entered the central chamber, a vast rotunda that stretched upward into the gloom. Thousands of translucent figures sat at long wooden tables, staring blankly at empty ledgers.

They were the Unclaimed souls who had stayed in the Trash Folder so long that they had lost their "Primary Note."

"They have no color," Adriana said, her heart aching.

"They're like ghosts of ghosts."

"If we can't find a spark of resonance here, we're stranded," Elias warned, checking the ship's power gauge.

It was down to 12%. "And the Static out there is closing in. The station is being compressed."

Suddenly, one of the figures at the table stood up. He was wearing a tattered librarian's vest and wire-rimmed glasses.

Unlike the others, his eyes weren't empty; they were filled with a terrifying, absolute Silence.

"You bring a heartbeat into a house of stillness," the Librarian spoke, his voice sounding like sandpaper on glass.

"You are the Weaver who broke the Partition. We heard your signal. It hurt."

"We need your help," Adriana said, stepping forward. "We're trying to save the world from the Overseers.

We need resonance to power our ship."

The Librarian let out a hollow laugh. "You ask for fire in a desert of ash. These people have nothing left to give. The Architect took their names, the Overseers took their memories, and the Static took their hope.

They are Zero-Point Souls."

But Adriana looked at the Green Key in her hand. It was vibrating. It wasn't sensing a signal,it was sensing a Void.

"They aren't empty," Adriana realized, her voice growing firm.

"They're just Compressed.

Like the items in my basement.

They've been pushed down so far they've become a new kind of energy."
