Chapter 17 - THE REUNION THAT WASN’T

Jae Rin's POV – The New Song

Morning sunlight poured through the studio windows in Seoul.

The room buzzed with energy.

Not the nervous kind.

The excited kind.

For the first time since revealing her identity to the world, Jae Rin was about to release something new.

A song.

But not just any song.

This one featured the people who had been beside her through everything.

She leaned back in the chair, headphones around her neck.

Across the studio:

Sora was sitting on the couch scrolling through comments.

Jisoo was adjusting the microphone stand.

Yuna was pacing excitedly.

And Min Jae stood near the control panel.

He looked calm as always.

But even he couldn't hide the slight smile on his face.

"Ready?" he asked.

Jae Rin nodded.

"Upload it."

Yuna gasped dramatically.

"Wait! Wait! Wait!"

Everyone looked at her.

"Can we appreciate the moment first?"

Sora laughed.

"Yuna, it's just a song release."

"Just a song?!"

Yuna pointed at Jae Rin.

"The entire planet is waiting to see what she does after the mask reveal!"

Jae Rin rolled her eyes.

"Relax."

Jisoo grinned.

"She's not wrong though."

Min Jae leaned forward and clicked one button.

The song went live.

And within seconds—

The internet exploded.

One Hour Later

Sora stared at her phone in shock.

"…What."

Yuna grabbed the phone.

"What?!"

"Two million streams."

Jisoo blinked.

"Already?"

Min Jae checked the charts.

"…It's number one."

Jae Rin sighed.

"I expected that."

The others stared at her.

"You expected that?!" Yuna yelled.

Jae Rin shrugged.

"People were curious."

Sora laughed.

"Curious is an understatement."

Clips of the song were already spreading everywhere.

Fans loved the collaboration.

They loved seeing Jae Rin relaxed and laughing with her friends.

The internet had one message:

"THE QUEEN IS BACK."

Keifer's POV – The Plan

Across the city, Keifer watched the music video silently.

He had already played it four times.

The way she smiled.

The way she moved.

The way she laughed with her friends.

She looked…

Happy.

Happier than he had ever seen her in school.

Ci-n leaned against the desk beside him.

"She looks different."

Keifer didn't respond.

Ci-n continued quietly.

"She moved on."

Keifer's jaw tightened.

"No."

Ci-n sighed.

"Bro."

"There is no Keifer without his Jay."

The words slipped out before he could stop them.

Ci-n stared at him.

"You still love her."

Keifer didn't deny it.

Because the truth had been obvious for years.

He had loved Jay long before everything went wrong.

And losing her had been the biggest mistake of his life.

Ci-n folded his arms.

"So what's the plan?"

Keifer looked at the screen again.

Then he said quietly,

"I'm meeting her."

Ci-n frowned.

"How?"

"Min Jae."

Ci-n's eyes widened.

"You're going through the boyfriend?"

Keifer nodded.

"I already sent a message."

Ci-n groaned.

"This is going to end badly."

Keifer ignored him.

Because if there was even the smallest chance of fixing the past—

He would take it.

The Meeting

Two days later.

A private meeting room in a luxury hotel in Seoul.

The atmosphere was tense.

Inside the room sat:

Keifer

Ci-n

Aries

Angelo

None of them spoke.

They were waiting.

Finally the door opened.

Jae Rin walked in.

Her long silky hair flowed down almost to her knees.

Behind her were:

Min Jae

Sora

Jisoo

Yuna

The room fell completely silent.

For eleven years they had imagined this moment.

Seeing Jay again.

But the woman standing in front of them now looked completely different.

Confident.

Powerful.

Untouchable.

Keifer stood slowly.

His heart was racing.

"Jay—"

But she interrupted him.

Her expression calm.

Almost polite.

"I'm sorry."

The words hit like a slap.

"I think you're mistaken."

The room froze.

Ci-n blinked.

"…What?"

Jae Rin tilted her head slightly.

"My name is Jae Rin."

She extended her hand politely.

"Nice to meet you."

Keifer's chest tightened.

He stared at her like the ground had disappeared beneath him.

"You… don't know us?"

Her face remained perfectly calm.

"No."

The silence became unbearable.

Angelo's POV

Angelo felt something cold settle in his chest.

For years he had prepared himself for Jay's anger.

Her hatred.

Her accusations.

But this…

This was worse.

She looked at them like strangers.

Like they meant nothing.

Aries suddenly stood up.

"Stop joking."

Jae Rin looked at him calmly.

"I'm not joking."

Aries' voice turned sharp.

"You're Jay."

Her expression didn't change.

"I think you have the wrong person."

Ci-n felt his stomach drop.

Because he realized something terrifying.

She wasn't acting emotional.

She wasn't angry.

She was completely calm.

Like they truly meant nothing to her.

Angelo whispered quietly,

"…She erased us."

Keifer's POV

Keifer's mind was spinning.

This couldn't be real.

The girl he had spent eleven years searching for…

Was standing right in front of him.

And she was saying she didn't know him.

His voice came out hoarse.

"Jay… please."

Jae Rin looked at him.

For a split second—

Something flickered in her eyes.

Then it disappeared.

"I'm sorry."

"I think this meeting was unnecessary."

She turned slightly toward Min Jae.

"We should go."

The words shattered something inside Keifer.

Because it felt final.

Like she had truly moved on.

Like the past meant nothing.

And suddenly he realized something terrifying.

Maybe Jay hadn't just disappeared.

Maybe she had decided to erase them from her life completely.

Jae Rin's POV – Before the Meeting

Earlier that day.

Jae Rin sat in the car beside Min Jae.

The hotel was only minutes away.

Min Jae glanced at her carefully.

"You're quiet."

She looked out the window.

"They're going to try to talk about the past."

He nodded.

"Yes."

She took a deep breath.

"I'm not ready for that."

Min Jae stayed silent.

Then she turned toward him.

"So I'm going to do something."

"What?"

Her voice was calm.

"I'm going to pretend I don't know them."

Min Jae blinked.

"…What?"

"I'll introduce myself."

"Act like they're strangers."

He studied her carefully.

"You think that will work?"

She shrugged slightly.

"It will protect me."

Because if she let the past back in too quickly—

All the pain might come back with it.

Min Jae nodded slowly.

"Okay."

She smiled slightly.

"Just go with the flow."

He chuckled softly.

"You're terrifying sometimes."

Jae Rin laughed quietly.

"Maybe."

But deep down—

She knew the truth.

She remembered everything.

Every betrayal.

Every lie.

Every moment they chose not to believe her.

And until she was ready to face that pain again…

They would remain strangers.

Even if they had once been her entire world.
