Soldiers whose torsos were crushed by the bricks and stones of the city wall, but who were not dead, wailed in the ruins.
Remedios stood at the other end of the broken city wall, looking at the location of the remaining meteorite, her heart filled with an ineffable complexity.
Just moments before, she had been filled with resentment towards that man, with the humiliation of her dignity being trampled, and the fear of his powerful strength, but the moment she saw him rush towards the meteorite, it all transformed into an inexplicable shock!
He is not a part of the Holy Kingdom and even despises us so much, yet when faced with such a situation, he stepped forward without hesitation. Who exactly are you?
"Commander! The Demi-human Army has begun its attack!"
Gustavo's startled cry awakened Remedios from her contemplation. She turned to look to the side, and sure enough, those demi-human troops, after the meteorite destroyed the city wall, immediately charged frantically towards the breach.
"Quick, stop them!!!"
Remedios had no time to think. She immediately drew her Holy Sword and rushed towards the breach. If these demi-human armies were allowed to break through the Great Wall, it would be a major disaster for the Holy Kingdom.
As she and the two Vice Commanders led the surviving Paladins to the breach, Pavel and others on the other side also gathered there with their soldiers.
However, their situation was extremely perilous.
Not only had they lost an important defensive barrier, but most of the soldiers were injured from avoiding the meteorite attack just now. At this moment, almost all of them were standing there enduring the severe pain of broken leg bones or arm bones, and bleeding internal organs.
Facing the well-rested Demi-human Army, they, who already lacked a physical advantage, were now in an even worse predicament.
"Sergeant Pavel, take the soldiers behind the city wall. Those with serious injuries should not stay here and be a burden. Go and move the armaments over, and establish a defensive line behind this passage. The Paladin Order and I will hold them off first. Move quickly!" Remedios said with a solemn expression.
Although parts of her words sounded uncomfortable, Pavel could still understand her meaning.
Even for uninjured soldiers, it would be almost impossible to resist the Demi-human Army outside the city wall, let alone these severely injured soldiers, who might only serve as obstacles with their bodies when the demi-humans charged.
Since that was the case, it would be better to retreat to the rear for emergency treatment first, and at the same time replenish the weapons lost when jumping over the wall.
Moreover, although the meteorite destroyed the city wall, it only created one passage on each side. That narrow gap was already the limit for two larger Ogres to pass side by side.
Utilizing this terrain, although not as advantageous as the elevated position of the city wall, could still provide some assistance.
"I understand. We'll rely on you all next. I will gather the scattered soldiers and establish a position behind the city wall. Until then, please hold on, everyone!"
Pavel didn't waste words. He immediately led Orland and the soldiers back into the stronghold through those two passages.
"Isadro, take half the men and block the breach over there!" Remedios ordered her Vice Commander. As one of the nine colors of the Holy Kingdom, Isadro's strength should allow him to hold on for a while.
"Yes! Commander!"
After receiving the order, Isadro immediately waved his hand behind him, "You all, follow me!"
There were a total of two hundred Paladin members who came with them to the Central Stronghold this time. They were much stronger than ordinary soldiers, and many of them could use low-level healing magic. So, except for more than forty people who went missing while avoiding the meteorite attack, almost all the others had gathered here.
Remedios led seventy Paladins to form a line at the breach, and soon, the first wave of demi-humans charged over.
"Hoo-ah-ah!!!"
Instead of choosing to defend in place, Remedios directly charged into the Ogre's ranks. Her Holy Sword swung continuously, occasionally flashing with sacred light.
Although the Ogres held huge shields, they could not withstand Remedios's attacks.
She easily circled behind the Ogres, her Holy Sword directly injuring their legs, causing these Ogres to fall one after another, forming a human shield barrier that blocked the demi-humans' path forward.
This was a very clever approach.
After cutting down the Ogres, Remedios rushed towards the Goatmen behind them, attracting the attention of the surrounding demi-humans and making them shift their attack target to her, buying more time for the Holy Kingdom soldiers on the other side of the city wall.
Her Holy Sword swung continuously, directly cutting a Goatman in half. For a time, Remedios was like a Valkyrie on the battlefield.
This action immediately attracted the attention of the strong among the demi-humans.
At the rear of the Demi-human Army, all Ten Heroes of the Demi-humans were gathered around the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth. They did not rush to the front line to act as a vanguard in the first instance due to Jaldabaoth's command.
This was presumably so that when a strong opponent appeared, their side would be able to react with a counter-move.
However, this was not entirely agreed upon by some of the more irritable individuals among the Ten Heroes.
"Lord Jaldabaoth, a strong individual, as you mentioned, has now appeared on the Holy Kingdom's side. That woman should be the Commander of the Holy Kingdom's Paladin Order." A demi-human, whose upper body somewhat resembled an Orc but whose lower body was that of a beast, held a massive battle-axe and respectfully said to Jaldabaoth beside him.
Jaldabaoth's masked face turned slightly, looking at this four-legged beast, Wei Jie Ragandera, one of the Ten Heroes, and said in a gentle tone, "So, what do you want to do?"
Although his demeanor was gentle, it did not mean he felt any affinity for the demi-humans; they were merely tools to be used.
"I request to be allowed to fight, I will surely cut off the opponent's head!" Wei Jie said with conviction.
Besides responding to Jaldabaoth's command to participate in this battle, he also wanted to display his valor on the battlefield and enhance his reputation.
Because his title among the Ten Heroes, 'Demon Claw,' was inherited from his father, and he felt that his current self was not yet worthy of it, which is why he wanted to make a name for himself.
"If that's what you want to do, then go ahead," Jaldabaoth said indifferently.
"Thank you, Lord Jaldabaoth!" Wei Jie immediately nodded excitedly, then ran towards the Great Wall.
The four-legged beast's speed was very fast. Wei Jie reached the front line of the battlefield in almost no time at all.
Remedios was continuously killing demi-humans, completely unaware that a threat was rapidly approaching her.
