For more than two months - ever since the day that Uriel reminded him of the countdown to their departure - Kai knew that he had three choices ahead of him.
The first was to leave without a word, just as he did in his first life and allow Rameses to believe that he was better off without him. A cowardly but clean option. No confrontation on his part required.
It was also the choice that made him feel the worst about himself. But it was there nonetheless.
The second - stay.
At least for now, he could delay the departure until they had enough zehn for Rameses to come with them, maybe his father and sister too.
But no. A year was already long enough, delaying the departure by another six months would only heighten the risk. If everything was in Kai's control then he would consider it, but he simply did not know enough about how his new path had affected the future of Zenin.
