Celine walked slowly toward the kitchen, the only place where she could breathe freely away from Leo's stifling surveillance. The scent of spices and the hum of activity welcomed her. There, she saw Bella, the young maid who had become her sole anchor of friendship in this frigid mansion, wrestling with a mountain of groceries.
"Bella, why is everyone so busy today?" Celine asked, trying to break the heavy silence.
Bella looked up briefly, wiping sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. "Yes, Celine. Mr. Leo is hosting a major business banquet the day after tomorrow. The entire mansion has to be flawless."
"A banquet? In this house?" Celine knit her brows, a large question forming in her mind. Was Leo the type of man who enjoyed flaunting his power through parties at his own home, or was there another plan hidden behind it?
