Chapter 223 - Chapter 0223 - The Bunker Hides From the Envoy

Yugen fell silent. Hearing it put that way, these people did not sound much better than the other side. So this Dimension really was just dogs biting dogs.

"What is even more hateful is that some among us forgot the honor of being Fiend. They bowed and scraped before those disgusting Dark God, willingly became their lackeys, and shamed the Fiend blood in their bodies." He gave a cold snort. "I despise that bunch more than anything. Even if I die in this the Bunker, I will never betray my noble bloodline and join the camp of the Dark God."

By the time he finished speaking, they had arrived at a plaza that seemed to be the prisoners' activity area. Fiend made up most of the crowd there, but there were also Spirit of other races, and even a fish in prison clothes hopping around on land.

The four-eyed Fiend led the way, crossing most of the plaza under the strange looks of the other Spirit, and went straight to the inner side of the square. Then he planted his hands on his hips and shouted with a bright smile, "Hey! Big brother, you there? Come out, it's time to Duel!"

"..."

"`Continuous Trap`, `Royal Decree`. All Trap effects on the field are negated."

Yugen spoke calmly. Then he activated the Equip Spell `Big Bang Shot`, attaching it to the opponent's monster `Giant Orc` and raising that `Equip Monster`'s `ATK` by 400. After that, he discarded the WATER-attribute `Sinister Serpent` from his hand and activated the effect of `Abyss Soldier` on his field.

"`Once Per Turn`: discard one card, then return one card on the field to its owner's hand. I return `Big Bang Shot` on the field to its owner's hand. And by the effect of `Big Bang Shot`, when it leaves the field, your equipped `Giant Orc` is banished."

The `Spirit`s around the plaza slowly opened their mouths wider as they watched. None of them had known a play like that was even possible.

"Then the `Big Bang Shot` that returned to my hand is equipped to my own `Abyss Soldier`." Yugen smiled as he completed the move. "Both `Abyss Soldier` attack directly."

"..."

In just a few minutes, another `Fiend` lost his dreams and his `Deck`. This time, however, that `Fiend` did not need to grieve over losing his `Deck`, because this time he had lost his life as well.

When Yugen had dueled the four-eyed `Fiend`, he still had not fully understood this place. The other side had clearly not been trying to kill him at the start of that `Duel`, so when he reduced the four-eyed `Fiend`'s LP to zero, he had held back and decided to ask questions afterward.

Now that he understood the rules here, he knew this plane was nothing more than a struggle between one rotten group and another native demon faction, and neither side looked any better than the other. There was nothing worth saying, so killing one casually also made taking the `Deck` more convenient.

But when the watching prisoners saw one of their fellow inmates turn into scattered light right in front of them, they were terrified. This man actually dared to kill someone openly inside `the Bunker`, and he was not afraid of the `Warden` at all.

The four-eyed `Fiend` felt a deeper chill spread through his body. Only now did he realize that he had likely brushed past death earlier, and the fact that he had only lost his `Deck` after dueling a monster like this was already unbelievable mercy.

Yugen calmly put away another `Deck` and looked around in confusion. Why had the `Warden` still not shown up? The security in this lousy `the Bunker` was clearly lacking.

Then he dismissed the thought. If they were not coming, then so be it. He would just keep moving forward step by step and find the next target.

"You said there are still two more `Spirit`s here who can `Duel`, right?" Yugen looked at the four-eyed `Fiend` again and crooked a finger at him. "Come on. Keep leading the way."

The four-eyed `Fiend` trembled all over, but he did not dare disobey. He could only lower his head, bite his lip, and continue walking.

Just then, a heavy boom came from somewhere unknown. The entire `the Bunker` seemed to shake once, and then a cold voice rang out through the air.

"All prisoners, free activity time has ended early. Return to your cells immediately, or compulsory measures will be taken. Repeating once more, return to your cells immediately, or compulsory measures will be taken."

The imprisoned `Spirit`s immediately scattered in all directions. They shoved each other as they rushed back toward their cells, making it obvious that they still feared the prison guards here.

The four-eyed `Fiend` edged closer to Yugen and lowered his voice. "Big brother, how about we return to the cell first? We can `Duel` again next time. Otherwise..."

He stopped halfway through. He had wanted to say that angering the guards and getting punished would be bad, but then he remembered that this big brother had never looked like someone who cared about the guards at all.

"That sound just now was really loud. It sounded like some kind of explosion." Yugen thought for a moment, then said, "Could it be a prison break?"

"Huh?" The four-eyed `Fiend` froze for a moment, then nodded. "That is actually possible. Strong people nearby have tried leading troops to break into the prison before, but most of them failed. It just has not happened for a long time."

Yugen understood immediately and continued, "Then if someone still dares to break into the prison now, doesn't that usually mean they're pretty strong?"

The four-eyed `Fiend` nodded again, but his expression changed at once. "Of course. If they were not very confident in their strength, no one would come to `the Bunker` just to die. Wait, big brother, what are you trying to do!?"

He looked horrified. The eager look on Yugen's face was far too obvious.

Yugen was indeed a little excited. If they were strong people from the `Spirit World`, then their `Deck`s should be pretty good as well.

A few minutes earlier, deep inside `the Bunker`, in the meeting room, a heavy iron door shut out all outside noise. The dim yellow firelight barely illuminated the corners of the conference table, while twisted shadows sprawled across the walls and ceiling.

The `Warden` of `the Bunker` sat at one end of the long table with a grave expression. Crimson moonlight streamed through the narrow window and fell across his face like blood-colored light.

"I'll speak plainly." The `Warden` rested both hands on the table, lowered his voice, and spoke with his chin propped up. "You should all know that the great `The God of Orichalcos` has already sent a special envoy to our world."

His gaze slowly swept across the senior officials in the room. "The envoy's identity is unknown, or perhaps the higher-ups are deliberately concealing that information from us. We have no way of knowing the envoy's race, gender, or even what form they may take."

"For the next period of time, I want all of you to proceed on the assumption that anyone could be that envoy. Be careful with every word and every action."

"Understood." The senior officials nodded one after another.

An envoy conducting a covert inspection was something `the Bunker`, and in fact every stronghold established after surrendering to the god, could never avoid. Every so often, a similar review would come. Sometimes it was public, and sometimes, like this one, it was carried out in secret.
