Finally, after a few more hours of conversation, catching up, and a few more heartfelt words of advice from his grandfather, he was finally free to leave.
As he walked out from the Information Hall and was observing the lanterns lit up all over the sect, he couldn't help but think through the events of the day.
Alright, it was definitely unexpected that Grandfather would find out about me and Mei'er, but I guess it all turned out good in the end.
Huang Shi walked with silent footsteps, trying to figure out when Li Mei and his grandfather had their side of the conversation.
Maybe it was when I was still in the Greenwood Forest? It was probably quite obvious to Grandfather how much my Mei'er missed m—
All of a sudden, Huang Shi paused in his steps, his expression changing into a grimace as he suddenly felt like something shifted in the air.
Ah shit... is this one of those clichés where someone is following the main character trying to assassinate him?
After a few seconds of silence, he continued to walk like nothing happened. However, instead of going straight toward his home, he changed directions and started walking toward an alley where there were barely any people around as he turned toward his right.
CLICK CLICK
At the moment, Huang Shi was standing inside of an empty street; every house, shop, and food stall was closed, as the only sound in the area was the whistling of the night air.
There was only a single lantern present in the entire street, glowing with a pale amber light and casting deep shadows on the ground. Finally, he stopped walking and spoke in a cold and monotone voice:
"Alright, enough of this shit. If you're gonna follow me around like some rats, you should at least have the guts to show your faces to me, right?"
CLICK CLICK
His words were followed by an empty silence that seemed to ring through his ears as his heartbeat calmed to a normal pace. Yet, before long, footsteps sounded in the empty street.
STEP
STEP STEP
Huang Shi instantly raised his guard to the maximum as he turned around and saw three people approaching him in the dark. They were wearing black robes and wide hats that covered much of their faces, and they wielded long silver blades that glittered under the light.
Hmm... swords? I don't think swords are very popular in the Azure Dragon Sect... could they be outsiders?
After waiting a few seconds for them to catch up, the person at the front, who seemed to be the leader of the three men, suddenly looked up toward him. His black eyes shone like obsidian gems as he spoke with a rough tone.
"Guess you aren't as stupid as they say... unfortunately just being smart won't be enough for you to live…"
Huang Shi suddenly narrowed his eyes, his expression flickering in the dark as he instantly opened his mouth and spoke.
"I'm guessing you guys aren't here for anything peaceful tonight?"
One of the two men beside their leader, a man who looked a lot more gruff and rowdy, suddenly spoke with a cold sneer as he unsheathed his sword and pointed it at him.
"Enough of this chitchat, Senior Brother. Let's just get rid of him as quickly as possible; after all, this kid is just an ant at the 1st level of the Nascent Profound Realm anyway."
The other, who seemed a lot thinner, spoke with a hiss in his voice—like he was part snake—as he joined his comrade in speaking out.
"That's right... the sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get out of this place. I don't want any mishaps to happen."
Huang Shi stared at this scene in silence, his golden eyes flashing with a cold light as he gave a slight smirk.
Guess the system's cloaking ability really is so fucking OP.
Right now, Huang Shi was using his system's ability to hide his cultivation level, portraying a scene that showed he was only at the 1st level of the Nascent Profound Realm.
In fact, the moment he got back to the sect, he had started hiding his true cultivation base.
The only people in the entire sect who knew of his true cultivation were his grandfather and Li Mei, and even the both of them didn't know the true extent of his battle prowess.
In fact, at this point, you could even say that unless Huang Shi somehow found an extremely powerful cultivation genius like that Ma Shiyi of the Crimson Sand Sect, he was basically invincible below the True Profound Realm of cultivation.
This meant that, of course, he figured out the true level of his so-called assassins' cultivation levels at a single glance.
Two of them at the 4th level of the Nascent Profound Realm, one of them at the 6th level of the Nascent Profound Realm.
If I was truly just a cultivator at the 1st level of the Nascent Profound Realm, this would definitely be more than enough to slaughter me ten times over.
Unfortunately for these idiots... their time is up…
The person who spoke up first, the gruff man at the 4th level of the Nascent Profound Realm, finally couldn't hold himself back as he stepped past his leader and walked straight toward him with an arrogant look on his face.
"Alright, kid… I don't know why the hell you dragged us into this empty alley, but clearly, despite your intelligence, you have overestimated your strength... and in this world, a single mistake can easily cost you your life!"
He stopped walking just a few meters away from him as a powerful spiritual energy aura erupted out from his body, and his sword started to ring with a powerful hum.
WHEENG
After a few seconds, he waved his sword casually through the air in a horizontal motion, as if he were waving a random stick in the air and not a sharp silver sword; yet, the moment he did, a powerful green sword light erupted out from his attack.
WHOOSH!
"Guess this is it for you... remember my words when you reincarnate in the afterlife!"
