Rex Pov
The moment the cave shook last night, I felt Yolande's presence fade in my mind.
"Finally," I said. "Finally, some relief."
I had been fighting her voice for days. Resisting her commands. Refusing to do what she wanted. And it had been exhausting. Every moment was a battle. Every thought was a struggle.
But now she was quiet. Whatever Kyran had done at the cave had worked. At least for now, I will have some peace of mind. At least for a little while.
I threw myself into training harder than ever. I needed to burn off the excess energy. I needed to exhaust my body so thoroughly that I could not think. Could not remember. Could not smell Freda's heat scent that still lingered in my nose.
"Again," I shouted at the young wolves I was training. "Faster this time. Put your weight behind it."
They obeyed immediately. Launching themselves at the training dummies with renewed energy. I watched them critically, looking for flaws in their form.
