"Who was clamoring for fish this morning? It's braised fish with pickled greens. I scooped a bowl for them, but the pot is still full. Go shower, then eat."
"No." Asher Ryder grimaced, rubbing his chin against Ewan's shoulder: "Let's eat first. I'm starving."
Eating right after a meal is bad for the stomach, Ewan knew. But picturing the man trudging through the cold mountain mist all day softened his resolve. Ewan clicked his tongue and gave in: "Fine, eat first. But afterward, I'm boiling water for your bath. No arguing."
"I'm used to cold showers..."
"You're drenched in sweat! The forest wind will make you sick! I said no arguing!"
The two bickered as they pulled each other into the kitchen. Outside, the wind had dispersed the scent, but stepping over the threshold, the sizzling heat and the aroma of pickled greens mixed with rich fish fat hit them instantly.
Right on cue, Asher Ryder's stomach let out a thunderous growl.
