Chapter 24 - Race

When they arrived at school, the gates of Kuoh Academy were already crowded with students entering the campus. Groups of friends chatted loudly near the entrance while others hurried toward their classrooms before the bell rang.

Silas walked through the gate with Sona and Tsubaki beside him.

The girls, however, were still visibly bothered by his earlier question.

Sona kept adjusting her glasses every few seconds, her usual calm composure slightly shaken, while Tsubaki avoided looking directly at him, her cheeks still faintly red.

Silas glanced at them and couldn't help laughing. A low chuckle escaped him as he saw how taken aback they still were.

"You two are still thinking about that?" he asked with amusement.

Sona immediately turned toward him with a glare.

"You asked something completely inappropriate out of nowhere," she replied sharply.

Tsubaki nodded quietly beside her.

Silas raised his hands slightly in mock surrender.

"Alright, alright," he said. "Sorry."

The apology sounded far from sincere. Sona narrowed her eyes.

"You don't sound sorry at all."

Tsubaki sighed softly.

"Not even a little."

Silas only grinned"You both practically begged for it, so I gave you one."

Before either of them could respond, he waved lazily and began walking away.

"See you two later."

The girls stood there watching him leave.

Sona shook her head. "He's impossible."

Tsubaki smiled faintly. "But entertaining."

After that, Silas walked toward his classroom building. Students passed by him in the hallway as the morning chatter filled the corridors.

On his way there, he ran into Issei.

The brown-haired boy was leaning against the wall near the classroom door, looking distracted.

The moment he saw Silas—

He stared.

Silas noticed immediately.

"Yo," Silas greeted casually.

Issei nodded slowly, though there was a slight frown on his face. "Yeah… what's up?"

Silas shrugged. "Nothing much." He tilted his head slightly. "I'm sure Rias is gonna send her guide around break. So be ready for that."

Issei rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Yeah… I will."

Silas nodded."Alright, see yah."

He began walking past him.

But suddenly—

"Hey, wait!"

Silas stopped and turned toward him.

"Hmm?"

Issei hesitated for a moment before asking the question that had clearly been bothering him.

"Are you a part of them or something?"

Silas stared at him for a second. Then he smiled. "Nah fam."

He turned and continued walking down the hallway. Issei stood there watching him leave, still confused.

Meanwhile Silas slipped his hands into his pockets as he walked.

'Now that the story has started…Things will start getting interesting.'

He arrived in class and the school day began. The morning lessons passed normally, teachers explaining material while students half-listened and scribbled notes or stared out the windows.

Today they were going to gym for some reason.

The class eventually made its way outside to the school's athletic field. The wide running tracks stretched around the grassy field while students gathered in small groups as the gym teacher shouted instructions.

Silas wore his gym clothes and stood on the tracks, stretching his arms slightly as he watched everyone running drills. Students jogged past him in uneven lines while the teacher blew his whistle every few seconds.

Akeno walked over to his side, dressed in the short, panty-like gym shorts and a loose white shirt that swayed slightly in the breeze.

"You're not going to run?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

"I will," he replied calmly. "Why are you asking?"

He turned to her as she leaned a little closer.

"You don't look like much of a runner," she replied with a teasing smile.

"Oh?" Silas raised an eyebrow. "Wanna test that theory of yours?"

Akeno's smile widened slightly.

"Sure. What did you have in mind?" she asked.

"Let's have a race," he said casually. "Start to finish and back to start. What do you think?"

Akeno chuckled softly.

"Let's add a wager," she said.

Silas looked at her curiously.

"If I win," she continued, "you do whatever I want." She folded her arms lightly. "What do you think?"

"And vice versa?" he asked.

She nodded without hesitation.

"Deal then," Silas said. "Let's go."

The others who overheard them immediately got out of the race tracks, curious to see what would happen.

Soon the two of them stood at the starting line. Both lowered themselves slightly into position.

They glanced at each other from the corner of their eyes. Rias stepped forward to act as the signal.

She raised her hand.

The next second—

"Go!" she shouted.

The two blasted forward with incredible speed.

Their feet slammed against the track as they shot ahead, leaving a burst of dust behind them that flew toward the students watching from behind.

Gasps spread across the field. They were far faster than anyone expected. There was a clear gap though. Silas reached the end first.

Before Akeno even arrived at the line, he had already turned and was running back.

His movements were smooth and effortless, like he wasn't even pushing himself.

Moments later, he crossed the finish line.

Dust still lingered in the air across the track as it slowly settled. As the view cleared. Silas stood there.

Looking cool. Barely even breathing hard. Not even trying, honestly. Rias watched him with a small smirk.

'I could stare at him all day,' she thought.

Akeno jogged up a moment later, still smiling as she lightly nudged his shoulder.

"Wow," she said playfully. "I was completely outclassed." She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Why don't you join the track team?"

Silas glanced at her. "Why don't you?"

Akeno blinked. Then laughed softly. "Touché."

After that, he and the girls sat together under a large tree near the edge of the field. The shade protected them from the sunlight while the breeze moved gently through the leaves above them.

Students continued their exercises across the field while the teacher shouted instructions in the distance.

Silas leaned back against the tree trunk.

He stayed quiet as the girls spoke among themselves, occasionally laughing or whispering about something.

The cool breeze brushed past his face.

For once, everything felt peaceful.

'This is the life,' he thought.
