Chapter 10 - Moving The Castle

Loud thumps continued overhead; the night creatures were trying to break in through the closed door. Skylar held her sword as Dracule and Elizabeth moved to guard the entrance of the hold we were currently in. Alucard moved quickly to move the mirror closer to Sypha while she got to work on finishing the spell.

"Can we get that magic mirror working?" Trevor asked as he turned to Sypha.

"I think so, but I can't do two things at once," Sypha said.

"I know some Chaldaic," Alucard said as he set the mirror in place. "I know how to operate a distance mirror. Which shall I do?"

"I can help with finishing the spell and taking care of any night creature that gets near," Skylar said, looking up where Dracule and Elizabeth were standing. "Those two look like they can handle some night creatures that get in."

"I can't do either of what Sypha or Alucard can," Trevor said while the thumping kept coming overhead. Skylar groaned in annoyance and got to work on the spell with Sypha.

"Come on, Belmont. Time to choose." Alucard said with a bite in his tone. "You're either the last son of a warrior dynasty or a lucky drunk. Which is it?"

Another boom came from overhead. Trevor looked around the hold as it shook, and dust and dirt came down in dustings over the shelves.

"Okay. Get the mirror working, Alucard," Trevor said, looking at him. "Give me force numbers, species, and weapons count. Sypha and Skylar stay on their job for now."

"What does it look like I'm doing, dog shit, asshole?!" Skylar snapped at him, and Sypha looked surprised at how quickly Skylar is getting things done. Alucard pulled off his glove with his teeth, which caught Skylar's eye. She immediately looked away and kept her head down to hide that she was looking at him.

"Then I'll fortify the point of entry," Trevor said as he headed to the entrance where Dracule and Elizabeth were both standing. Alucard extended one nail into a sharp claw and got to work fixing the runes on the mirror. Skylar helped Sypha finish the spell in record time, and they set up to use the spell and the mirror. Another boom came from overhead as Skylar took out a knife and got to work with Alucard on fixing the runes. Alucard looked twice when she began doing this since he wasn't expecting her to be this efficient.

"I think we're going to see the size and disposition of the attacking force with our own eyes. Belmont," Alucard said, giving a nasty glare at Trevor's way.

"I'm forced to agree," Trevor said, mounting a sword to his belt.

"Get a move on, Belmont!" Skylar ordered. "We are running out of time here!"

"I'm aware-"

"Then shut the hell up and go!!" Skylar snapped at him, her voice distorted, and sunlight emanated from her eyes and her knife. It faded before she turned to the mirror and got back to work. It startled Trevor, as did Sypha. Alucard watched her, not frightened, nor with the instinct to attack. Fascination held him, and he continued to fix the runes along the mirror. Trevor rushed up to join the other two, making a promise to protect Sypha as long as he could, with the night creatures breaking in.

"Done," Skylar said and moved to stand between the incoming threat, Sypha, and Alucard. While Alucard got to work, he tracked down the castle.

"There you are," Alucard said, his eyes flashing red for a mere moment. Skylar glanced over her shoulder at him, and she saw the castle in the mirror. She let out a small breath, amazed by the castle in the mirror. Almost immediately after, the castle vanished. Alucard immediately got to work on tracking it down again. Skylar moved away just enough not to be heard by him or Sypha. She took out the pendant again and used it for verbal communication only.

"Tara," Skylar spoke quietly into the pendant.

"Skylar," Tara spoke through the pendant.

"It's time, don't leave the castle; some new friends of mine are going to forcibly move it to our location," Skylar told her.

"Got it," Tara said before both ending the communication through the pendant. Meanwhile, at Dracula's castle, Tara slid the pendant into her pocket.

"What now?" A day creature with a distorted voice asked Tara.

"Now, we take this castle and kill all we can." Tara turned to the day creature. "Tell the others, it's time to bring out the dawn."

The day creature nodded and let out a shriek before running out of her workroom. Tara picked up her tool for forging and headed into the hallway. One by one, each of Tara's creatures stopped hiding, and no longer wore the charms. As Tara walked, she saw many vampires being eaten and burned by the sunlight that some of her creatures spat, either aimed at the night creatures to blind them, or the vampires to burn them alive. Tara didn't give them a second glance as she watched the surrounding carnage.

Her eyes were constantly watching for Isaac and Dracula. She knew she couldn't win against them, so avoiding them and ending weaker vampires was her only option. Every day, creatures around her knew to stay inside the castle and kill as many vampires and night creatures as possible. Before long, the castle began to move, but it only reappeared in the same area. This continued again and again, making a destructive mess of Braila. Tara held onto the wall; the hectic motions of the castle disoriented everyone. The day creatures attacked, it admitted the chaos. The water gushed inside when the castle appeared in the water and filled the castle with purified water. Many night creatures and vampires died during the attack. Injured day creatures recovered when hit with holy water.
