Chapter 29: Two Sides in a Flip.

~~~ [START]
"What are you wearing to the party?" Honey asked, walking forward, as Troy closed the taxi's door behind them.
Troy turned to her, "A dress."
But Honey didn't reply; she only nodded at his words, eyes still trailing forward.
"And a bra," Troy continued, shaking his head at her obliviousness, "panties."
But still, she didn't turn to him; it was as though his words held logic.
So, he reached out and halted her figure by her arm, pulling her closer as she turned with her head shifting upward to glance at his face.
"What?" Troy said, this time his expression in-between neutral and serious. "You don't trust me?"
She tried nudging his hand off, but it remained unmoving, as if her strength was insignificant.
Her expression turned, softly shifting and deepening into a cry. Yet no weep escaped the lips, just tears falling from eyes.
Troy pulled her to his chest, arms hanging on her figure for the longest of embraces.
Her arms also tightened around him, with her tears falling and turning his shirt wrinkly-wet.
And unknown, even by him, his heart was beating in an unnatural rhythm; a song which mimicked chaos.
{ELSEWHERE}
"Alice," Edward entered her room after he knocked. He walked slowly, eyes watching her paint with pitch black on her canvas. "What did you mean when you said you'll become best friends with Bella?"
Alice didn't even turn to him; she only shrugged her shoulders and continued painting.
"Please," Edward begged, nearing closer, noting the slowing in the action of her art.
"I don't know, Edward," Alice finally turned to him, brush still in hand. "Why don't you read my mind and find out?"
Edward's jaw clenched. "Alice, I'm—"
"Selfish." She finished, eyes unblinking. "Do you think you're better than me? Do you think your relationship with Bella is more important?"
It was the first time Edward had ever heard her speak like that. Because usually, she would always act kind with a hint of playfulness, but now, her hands were clenched within her oversized sleeves, and her tone was higher in pitch.
"No—"
"No?" Alice interrupted him again, this time pausing after the words. And the silence stretched, intensifying the clarity behind every word. "How would you feel if everyone started hating Bella?"
His spine shivered at the thought as his eyes turned downward.
"What if I told everyone to kill her?" Alice continued, and Edward's eyes widened like a dart. Yet even then, they didn't dare to look up at her. "What if I said she gets us killed—"
"Alice," Edward's words hissed as whispers. And much like her, his hands clenched while his whole body lightly trembled.
"What makes your relationship with a human better than me?" Alice's words were direct. And much like a dagger, they pierced deep within his crystallized heart. "No, Edward, me and Bella never become best friends, because I kill myself."
And in that instant, as though enlightened by the holy, Edward finally saw it. A glimpse that his thoughts were never lonesome.
Alice was him.
{ELSEWHERE}
"So, Gina was right," Troy said, unrestricted.
And Honey replied with a nod.
"Fuck him." He remarked, and Honey couldn't help but giggle, while he smiled when he heard her voice.
Then she turned her eyes onto him, dagger meeting dagger, steel sharpening steel.
"What?" Discomfort overwhelmed Troy first. "Don't look at me like that; it's your decision."
Honey sighed under her breath.
She knew what the man did to her; she truly hated him with all her spirit, but why did the feeling of leaving him to death feel so empty? It was as if, by not saving him, she was killing him herself.
Troy shook his head the moment her leg started tapping uneasily against the ground. "You're doing it, aren't you?"
She didn't reply, or nod, or acknowledge it, but the silence was enough.
So, Troy stood up, then extended a hand toward her. Honey couldn't even smile when she accepted it; she only turned her lips into something fake.
"You ready?" Troy asked after she stood up from her seat.
Honey raised a brow. "Huh—?"
"Sheesh." Troy pulled her closer, then moved one of his feet under her own. Then he lifted it upward, and she jolted in a mini jump.
Yet, instead of returning to the floor, she started floating upward, as though gravity was denying her existence.
"Troy!" She stumbled in the air, nearly flipping uncontrollably, but Troy's hand, which was still holding onto hers, returned her to focus, manoeuvring her figure like a kite, as she drifted atop the air like a fiery.
And for the first time that day, for the first time since the day before, something genuine arose from her lips, an entity so mighty that it caused small wrinkles to emerge under the bags of her eyes.
It was happiness.
And Troy knew it was the most genuine thing in the world. Something which would later bring him to make a choice.
A choice distant but absolute. A choice unavoidable.
One capable of turning a human into God, or an angel into the devil.
