Chapter 21 - Chapter Twenty One, Revenge

Alex had long fallen asleep, awaiting his final test. Finally prepared to face the spider on what he thought was equal footings.

Once again Alex was navigating through his memories. As he chose a random direction and began following it.

While following the path, memories of his long month came back to him. Yet these were not the happy memories.

Instead they were the memories that Alex had long suppressed. Hiding them away not to be reminded of his failure.

These memories were of the two more souls that had passed away due to the spider. With a total of three deaths taken away from just the one spider.

Deep in Alex's heart he knew that it was his fault for not killing the spider faster. Yet he wasn't too naive to not blame the spider just as much if not more.

With the memories surfacing an immense rage and anger filled his body. Before Alex channeled the hatred and anger into his upcoming battle.

Alex then suddenly saw the enormous spider in the distance. At this Alex grinned sinisterly emitting his own malice and rage toward the spider, before continuing to approach the spider.

Alex got closer and closer to the spider before stopping. Once Alex stopped, the screen of Knowledge appeared.

[Dream Spider has devoured the jade javelin.]

Alex looked at the screen for a bit before paying attention to the spider again. Then Alex summoned the few armor type ruins he had and put them on.

All of Alex's armor was fur, whether it be from the bear or the monkeys. Although the flimsy looks of the fur armors betrayed their true strength.

Yet these would not be able to stop the cuts from the spider, but they could offer protection to Alex. Even if it was just a little.

Then Alex summoned his lost katana, as the air whooshed into his hand, and the beautiful sword formed resembling a galaxy condensed into a blade.

Then Alex grasped the hilt of the blade before slowly walking up to the spider. As the spider noticed Alex it became wary, directly noticing Alex's aura he emitted.

With the immense killing intent pouring off of him like a raging river. Yet the Spider matched this intense pressure.

Then the spider lunged toward Alex, using its sharp legs to jump forward. While it also raised one of its legs, preparing to strike at Alex.

Yet Alexa was still calm, waiting for the right moment to dodge. The sharp leg of the spider kept getting closer and closer to Alex until Alex finally reacted.

Alex quickly raised his blade over his head, angling its tip toward the ground and the hilt to the sky. The spider's leg slammed into the sword.

Yet instead of ricocheting off or slamming Alex into the ground, the blade's angle had caused the spider's leg to slide right past him, slamming into the ground right beside him.

Then the spider jumped into the air again, this time going straight up. Alex quickly ran away from where the spider was going to land.

As the spider was planning to land on Alexa and crush him to death. Yet Alex had seen through the spider's scheme, instead moving away from it.

As the spider landed, the ground shook from its landing. While the spider then started crawling towards Alex.

Unfortunately for Alex at its incredible speed, it reached Alex in less than a second. While the spider then ducked its head down to Alex's level before opening its fangs.

Unexpectedly it shot out a blob of the purple fluids straight at Alex. At its close distance Alex was unable to dodge.

Alex had not expected this, never seeing the spider use that type of move before. He tried running and dodging the blob yet he was too close.

Then the purple liquid collided with Alex, and for a moment Alex thought a horrible thought.

Looks like it's finally over, sigh.

Shaking no fear of dying Alex had not woken up. Except he had also felt no pain where the liquid could hit him.

As the purple blob that hit him in the stomach instead just slowly fell down in one blob. While clingy to Alex's body.

Then he had a sudden epiphany, that the purple liquid was not poison or venom but instead just saliva.

The action the spider had directed toward him was spitting, not shooting venom or acid at him.

Suddenly relieved, Alex ran back toward the spider. Once again the spider beared it fang's obviously trying to intimidate Alex.

Yet Alex had a sudden idea, noticing the soft and sharp nature of the hairy fangs. Except the spider did not wait for Alex to brainstorm.

The spider threw its head toward Alex trying to bite him. Yet Alex reacted instantaneously jumping toward the spider's fang.

As he quickly jabbed his sword into the soft part of the spider's fangs. As he pulled up with the help of the sword.

Alex had climbed onto the top of the spider's fangs. Yet the spider was not happy about this, instead it bucked like a bull, trying to throw Alex off of it.

Yet Alex stayed diligent, holding onto his sword as tight as he could. Then the spider paused momentarily.

Alex used this pause to pull his sword out of the spider. Then Alex swept his sword down.

It was done in a clean and elegant motion, as his sword travelled right through the spider's fang.

The spider's fang dropped to the ground as the spider shrieked in pain. While Alex had a large grin written across his face.

Then Alex jumped back, getting a fair distance away from the huge spider. Just then the spider started going into a frenzy, swiping all its legs around.

Then the spider stopped and stared at Alex with its eight glowing eyes. Those eyes were filled with pure malice stronger than even Alex's.

Alex needed to find a way to disable the spider from moving. Then he remembered a small gap in the spider's carapace, located right above the spider's knee.

Proving his many scouting missions useful.

Alex was going to try and slice through the spider's leg before finding a way to kill the spider.

Then a fury of strikes was sent towards Alex; all of them were jabs from a single leg of the spider.

Then the two legs surrounding the leg that had just tried to jab Alex went to strike Alex at the same time.

This was going to be Alex's opening, as Alex ducked under the two legs of the spider and ran towards the showing tendon.

Except at that moment, one of the spider's back legs started piercing the air, heading straight for Alex.

Yet he could not see the leg, as it was hidden behind the leg Alex was targeting. Then the spider moved the leg Alex was aiming for, as he realized another leg was heading straight for him.

Alex did not have enough time to dodge, only having enough time to block the piercing. Yet from previous experiences he knew it wouldn't be enough.

Alex was hit with immense force, equivalent to the force of a driving school bus. As Alex flew through the air.

Except this time Alex did not land in a bush, instead Alex slammed against the garage door of one of the houses.

This had hurt Alex a lot, barely leaving him the ability to walk. Yet he continued to walk towards the spider.

As Alex then charged back into the violent battle with his remaining strength. Dodging the incoming attack from one of the spider's legs.

Then Alex noticed a leg sweeping across the air, just above the asphalt. It was aiming straight for his hips.

Except Alex grinned at seeing this, as he flipped over the leg, except while in the air he placed his sword right in front of the spider, exposing the tendon.

The sword cut clean through the spider's leg. A huge grin formed on Alex's face, and the spider's leg fell to the hard asphalt floor.

As the spider began to tip over, it was able to stabilize itself quickly. Restraining itself from tipping over, yet it wasn't perfectly balanced.

When Alex landed an immense pain was sent through his body. Coming from the remnant injuries from crashing into the nearby garage.

Yet he persisted as he ran back into the fight as he dodged an overhead attack and another jab. Heading straight for the leg closest to the one he'd just cut off.

Alex was planning on cutting off all the legs on one side of the spider to immobilize it.

Then another leg came hurling towards him. Luckily at the last second, he jumped to the side of its path.

He then reached the closest leg, and he didn't stop running, instead jumping up and swinging his arm across his body, as it made clean contact with the tendon, splitting it right apart.

Another one of the spider's legs had been cleanly severed by Alex's blade. With only two remaining, the spider was guaranteed to fall over.

Alex was already near another leg as he sprinted towards it and jumped up to swing at it. Except another leg was heading straight for Alex.

Quickly noticing the danger, Alex was able to evade the leg by spinning his body upside down and instead putting his sword in the leg's path.

When the leg collided with the sword, it spun Alex back to an upright position, where he used his extra momentum to spin around and once again sever a tendon of the spider.

For the first time during Alex's stay on the continent, he lucked out. As the dream spider began tipping over, this time unable to balance itself.

This had left the spider immobile, although it was still able to move its legs, it couldn't walk or run anywhere.

Alex slowly walked in confidence towards the spider's head. Once he got to its head, he switched his blade into reverse grip.

As he then grasped it with both hands, raised the sword over his head, and pushed the sword down as hard as he could.

Alex had stabbed the spider brutally, except he was not done. As he stabbed the spider again, and then stabbed it one final time.

The illusory system screen flickered into existence, notifying Alex of his kill.

[Great work! You have slain a Dream Spider, you have been awarded three runes.]

Alex was so joyous to finally see that screen. He was the happiest man in the world. He had just exacted revenge on the damned wretched dream spider.

While he was also happy because he had received both a crystal ruin from the spider and two normal ruins, which he had never seen in his experience.

Then his dream started to dissipate, except this time his dream had not paused before he died.

Instead, he was free from the spider, free from its tantalizing fear. He was free from all the shackles the spider put on him.

Alex felt extreme joy for the first time since arriving on the twisted and violent continent.

Alex was so happy, not just because he was able to defeat the dream spider, but because it showed he was improving, and that there was a chance they would be able to leave the continent without losing their lives.

Alex woke up for the first time without a terrible fear looming over him.
