Chapter 36 - A Death Threat
"No!" Ismena yelled against her better judgement, pushing through the hall from where she stood. "They did nothing!" Her voice rang through the space. "They did nothing!" She said again, staggering towards them.
Everything made her weaker and weaker. Her sight was a haze and her movements felt very uncoordinated. Her breath felt shaky.
Everything was difficult.
So this was it.
This was how Stavan wanted to punish her handmaidens. He was ready to sacrifice his handmaidens just to get back at her.
"Return to the chambers," Haron snapped. Then he looked at the men at the Round Table. "My Queen is tired." His voice was flat with disapproval. Not that he had to explain himself to the men at the Round Table but because she had swayed away from her place.
She had made him look bad.
Her heart raced.
There would be punishment for that, certainly but right now, her punishment felt like nothing.
