Chapter 35 - A Thousand and A Step Ahead
Fear climbed her throat.
"No one." She shook her head, trying her best to stay composed. "There was no one."
But his expression did not change.
Of course.
He needed more than just a denial. A redirection was in order.
"I was in the Temple when I heard about the fire."
She replied as gently as she could.
"And why were you in the Temple? You never told me you were going anywhere?" His finger held up her chin, his grip tight.
The images of the prisoner flashed in her mind along with memories of what she had done to herself this morning. Her cheeks heated up with guilt and embarrassment along with the flood of fear.
There was no way she was ever saying anything about that to him or to anyone.
Mojaha.
The Confessor had said it was Mojaha.
Still.
She couldn't get the prisoner out of her mind. He loomed over it like a dark cloud, constantly spreading over her, reaching her no matter how far she tried to run.
