The next morning felt different
Irene felt something thick in the air as shr walked in through the main gate
People were staring hardly and gossip flowing around
Two girls standing near the lockers lowered their voice the moment irene walked past them
"That's her"
"The restroom girl? "
"Yes"
Irene tightened her grip on her backpack straps and kept walking
Her sense of hearing had grown shaper over the past few days, she could hear things from a far, and the could hear when people talked slowly or whispers
"Principal alders gave them detention"
Irene reached her locker and unlock it quickly ignoring the gossip
"You're letting them get into you", she heared a voice from her back, she didn't need to turn around to known who it was
Lucian leaned casaully against the locker, his expression calm
"They are talking about us", irene said
"They talk about everything", lucian replied as he studies the hallway
Student moving around laughing and chatting but his gaze fixed on something else"the principal is up to something", he said
" Irene ", mia shouted from her back
Mia carter hurried toward them , her expression bright but curios
" I've been looking for you "mia said "everyone is talking about the restroom stuff", she added
" Of course they are", irene replied
Mia's eyes flickered on lucian
"And you're the mysterious transfer student",mia said
Lucian gave a polite nod" Lucian"
"Mia", she replied
" You guys are coming for lunch right? ", mia asked
Lucian reied before the could" Yes, we'll be there"
Mia smiled"good, because i have to hear one rumor about you without knowing the truth, i might lose my mind"
Irene forced a small laugh
The ball rang loudly through the hallway , student rushed toward their respective classes
As mia disppear among the crowd, irene turned to lucian and said "you didn't have the we'd go to lunch
Lucian gaze remained on the hallway "yes", he said calmly
" Why? ", she asked
His eyes darkened slightly
" Because if we hide people will think we are scared of them or their gossip", he said in the cafteria, trays clattered , student laughed , chairs scraped across the floor, to everyone it was just normal school day, but to irene the noise felt overwhelming
She grabbed her tray as she follows lucian
throigh the crowded room to their table
"Relax, okay? ", lucian asked
" I'm hearing things, the noise is the loud in my ear", she said
"That is part of the change, you will adapt to it, just calm down, okay? ", he said
" Okay! ", she said as she smiles at him softly
They reached a corner table where mia was sitting
" Look at you, you made it", mia said
"Yeah", irene replied
They started to eat silently but mia broke the silence "joke apart, what really happens? ", she asked them
" Nothing", lucian replied
"That is not everyone says", she leaned forward , talking slowly
" What are they saying", irene replied
Mia looked between them"some says you are kissing and stuff like that"
"Why will we go and kiss in the toilet when there is classroom, hallways and so many places to kiss", lucian said as he sipped his water slowly
Irene felt her pulse jump as lucian's eyes flickered to irene then to mia
" So what do you think? ", lucian asked mia
"I think my bestfriend had been acting weird", she said as she set her gaze on irene" And now the transfer student is always around her
Irene forced a small
Lucian smirked faintly "maybe i like her personality"
Before either of them could talk again the door of the cafteria opened
A tall student came in with pale skin , the noise in the room barely changed but irene could notice that something is in the air
Her sense sharpened instantly and a strange chill ran through her
"Lucian....", she whispered
Lucian has noticed too
Across the room the tall student stopped at the drink machines his eyes lifted slowly and met with irene's eyes
Lucian's posture shifted "do not stare back"
"Why", irene asked, heart racing
"Because he his staring at you ", he replied
Mia frowned " What are you guys talking about",
Neither of then answered
The boy began walking through the cafteria, not toward friends, not toward the lunch line but toward them
Irene twisted"lucian.... "
"I see him, do you know him? ", lucian's voice dropped lower
" No", she replied
The boy stopped two tables away from them, his gaze fixed on irene then to lucian then to mia and then to irene again like a predator studying a prey
Lucian leaned closer to her "he is up to something, he is not human"
Irene's blood ran cold "Another vampire? "
"I'm not sure maybe he is vampire or not but he is not from my clan", lucian said for only her to hear
Then the boy smiled dangerously at them like he heard everything
Lucian's jaw tightened
Because if another clan is sent to tbe school that will be a hunt and thhat might cause hee trouble
In the other side mia didn't really nitice anything strange except how lucian and irene her talking silently to each others ear
" Will you guys stop all this secret chat that you are talking into each other's ear and let us concertrate on the food", mia said
In the side room, For a while the class went silent except for the scratching of pens on papers in the room
Lucian finished his first page, being centeries old had it advantages when it came to easays
After a while she leaned in to closer to lucian"are you on the second page already"
Lucian didn't look at her "i thought we weren't supposed to talk", he replied quietly
"Oh please, just tell me how you are writing so fast", she said
Lucian sighed and slid his paper slightly so she could see.
Irene's eyes widened.
"Wait… how do you know so much about discipline in schools? Are you an old professor? "
Before lucian could respond, Mrs. brown's voice cut across the room.
"Irene. Lucian. Do you want to share your conversation with the class?"
Both of them sat straight immediately
"No, ma'am," they said together.
Mrs. Brown narrowed her eyes but returned to grading papers.
A few minutes later, Irene whispered to lucian again" Lucian"
He didn't answer, then she called him again"Lucian," she repeated.
"What?", he replied With a LEAVE -ME-ALONE look
"Please now? ", she said
Irene struggled , she kept on glaring at the blank page on her book After a while she raised up her hand
