"How much more time to confirm?!"
Mrs. Watson asked frantically, pacing back and forth across Jay's bedroom.
Jay was lying propped up on the bed while the family doctor sat beside her, quietly running her routine checks and taking her blood pressure in complete, agonizing silence.
"Mom! It's been just five seconds since she arrived, how can she check so fast?!"
Sophia groaned, leaning against the doorframe while frantically chewing on her thumb.
Mrs. Watson completely ignored her daughter, walking right up to the bed and hovering over the physician.
"Doctor, please... is it what we think it is?
Please, fast..."
"Mrs. Watson, please,"
the doctor replied calmly, keeping her focus on her instruments.
"I need complete quiet for just a moment.
Why don't you all wait outside in the hallway while I finish the examination?"
"But-" Mrs. Watson tried to resist, but Sophia immediately grabbed her mother's arm,
and with Mr. Watson's help, dragged her out into the corridor, gently shutting the heavy oak door behind them.
A few agonizing, endless minutes passed.
All three of them were walking back and forth outside like panicking ghosts, their footsteps echoing loudly against the marble floor.
Mrs. Watson was wringing her hands, praying under her breath, while Mr. Watson kept checking his wrist watch every ten seconds.
Finally, the brass doorknob clicked.
The door opened slowly, and the doctor stepped out into the hallway.
Her face was completely unreadable, her brow slightly furrowed as she adjusted her glasses.
She pulled the door shut behind her with a slow, heavy motion, looking at the family with a deeply serious, almost solemn expression.
The air in the hallway instantly froze.
"Doctor?!"
all three of them asked in unison, practically lunging forward, their faces draining of color.
"Doctor, please speak up!
Is she alright?!"
Mrs. Watson gasped, clutching her chest in terror.
"Is it something...?!"
The doctor looked at the three terrified faces, remaining dead silent for three painfully long seconds.
The heavy, serious aura around her made Sophia's heart drop straight into her stomach.
Then, the doctor let out a quiet sigh, her expression remaining entirely stoic.
"Her condition is... delicate.
Why don't you go ask her yourselves?"
Without giving them any further explanation, the doctor simply nodded and walked past them toward the stairs.
The family exchanged wide-eyed, horrified glances, their anxiety spiking through the roof.
What did 'delicate' mean?!
Was she sick?!
Gulping down their absolute panic, Mr. Watson slowly pushed the bedroom door open, and they stepped cautiously inside as if walking into a fragile crime scene.
Jay was sitting upright on the bed.
Her head was bowed, her dark hair falling over her shoulders, and her lips were pressed into a tight, pale, paper-thin line as she stared down intently at the blanket pulled over her lap.
Hearing their footsteps, she didn't immediately look up.
The heavy silence in the room was suffocating.
They hurried toward the edge of the bed, their breathing ragged.
"Jay... anak?"
Mrs. Watson whispered, her hands trembling violently as she reached out.
Sophia and Mr. Watson stood right behind her, completely frozen like statues, fearing the worst.
Jay slowly, agonizingly lifted her head.
Her eyes were wide, glassy, and completely unreadable, glistening with pooled water that looked like pure heartbreak.
"Anak... what happened, dear?"
Mrs. Watson asked again, her voice cracking as her heart hammered wildly against her ribs in sheer terror.
"Please talk to us...it's ok just tell us what's it...we are with you!"
Jay looked at each of their pale, horrified faces.
She took a deep, shaky exhale, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Everyone in the room held their breath, braced for devastating news.
1...
2...
3...
And then, a tiny, unstoppable quivering smile broke through Jay's tight lips.
The watery sheen in her eyes spilled over her cheeks in two hot, happy tears.
Before anyone could process the sudden shift, her small hand flew down, resting tenderly over her flat stomach.
She look at Mrs. Watson...
"Mom..."
She looked down at her stomach, her voice cracking with pure, overwhelming emotion.
"...Mom!"
Silence.
A brief, breathless silence fell over the room for exact three seconds as their brains frantically processed the gesture.
1...
2...
3...
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I'M GOING TO BECOME TITAAAAAAAAAA!"
Sophia screamed at the absolute top of her lungs, jumping high into the air before diving straight onto the bed to wrap Jay in a wild, suffocating hug, tears streaming down her face.
"THAT TRICK DOCTOR ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!"
Mr. Watson instantly pulled Mrs. Watson into a tight, crushing side-hug, a massive, triumphant grin spreading across his face as he wiped a stray tear from his eye.
"I'm going to become a grandfather..."
Mrs. Watson let out a loud, breathless sob, a glowing, radiant smile lighting up her face through her pouring tears.
"Soph... move!
Go away... let me meet her!"
Mrs. Watson ordered, shoving her daughter out of the way, completely unable to control her emotion for a single second longer.
She leaned down and wrapped Jay in the warmest, most loving embrace, holding her as if she were made of pure gold.
"Thank you... anak,"
she cried softly, pressing soft, desperate kisses to Jay's temples repeatedly.
"Thank you so much, my child..."
Jay laughed through her falling tears, hugging her mother-in-law tightly against her chest.
Mr. Watson stepped up to the edge of the bed and placed a warm, steady fatherly hand over Jay's head, his dark eyes shining with pure pride and emotion-
a gesture that Jay returned with a radiant, beautiful smile of her own.
"Let me tell Cheska!
And Aries!
And Percy!
And Section E too!
I'll tell everyone, then we'll conduct a party... a very big partyyyyyyyy!"
Sophia shouted with pure excitement, whipping her phone out of her pocket like a weapon.
PAX!
"Ow!... Mom!"
Sophia yelped, instantly clutching the back of her head where her mother had just delivered a swift, legendary smack.
"Mommm?!"
Mrs. Watson let out a heavy sigh, crossing her arms and pointing directly toward Jay.
"Let her tell the father first, at least."
"Ohp!... Sorry... I forgot,"
Sophia replied, flashing a terribly sheepish smile and tucking her phone away.
Mr. Watson chuckled quietly into his hand, shaking his head at his daughter's dramatic chaos.
Then her eyes lit up all over again.
"Then let me call him so that Jay could tell him!"
she said with renewed excitement, her thumb hovering over Keifer's contact.
"No, Soph..." Jay spoke up quickly.
Sophia paused, blinking in confusion.
"But why?"
"He's having an important meeting today... we can tell him once he comes back,"
Jay explained gently, holding the ultrasound report tightly against her chest.
"There's no meeting more important than this,"
Mr. Watson chimed in firmly, crossing his arms with a warm smile.
"It's okay, Dad... please,"
Jay pleaded softly, looking up at him with earnest eyes.
"I really want to tell him in person when he gets home."
Everyone looked at each other, taking in Jay's gentle request, and softly nodded in agreement.
"Okay, sweetie," Mrs. Watson smiled, patting Jay's shoulder fondly.
"We'll wait."
Meanwhile, Jay tugged quietly on Mrs. Watson's sleeve once Sophia stepped away.
"Mom..."
"Yes, anak? You need anything?"
Mrs. Watson asked, instantly shifting into her warm, attentive motherly mode.
Jay pulled on her sleeve a little firmer, gesturing for her to bend down closer. Mrs. Watson leaned over immediately, her eyes full of concern.
"Yes? What happened?
Is there any problem?"
Mrs. Watson whispered back frantically.
"No... but... Mom..."
Jay hesitated, her cheeks flushing a bright, embarrassed red.
"Yes... anak, what happened?
You're scaring me!"
"Mom... can you please tell Keifer...?"
Jay asked nervously, biting her lower lip and looking up with pleading, glossy eyes.
Mrs. Watson stared at Jay's flushed, anxious face for a second-and then let out a warm, soft chuckle.
Jay blinked in shock, pouting slightly. "Mom?!"
Mrs. Watson smiled tenderly, leaning in to press a loving kiss right onto Jay's forehead.
"No... it should be you.
You have to tell him by yourself."
Mrs. Watson gently placed her warm hand over Jay's flat stomach, her eyes sparkling with deep affection.
"It's about you two," she explained softly.
"This moment belongs to you and Keifer."
"But Mo-"
"No buts... it's final,"
Mrs. Watson declared with a gentle yet firm smile.
"You are going to tell him, okay?"
**
Ever since the doctor had stepped out of the mansion earlier that afternoon, the entire Watson family had officially lost their minds.
They had turned the mansion into a high-security hospital ward, hovering around Jay with a non-stop barrage of pure, overwhelming affection:
"Jay... do you wanna eat something?"
"Anak... do you wanna go rest in your room?"
"Jay... do you need anything?!"
"Anak... do you wanna go to the washroom?"
"Jay... should I bring fruits?"
"Anak... juice!"
"Jay... eat this!"
"Anak... eat that!"
"Jay... are you having mood swings yet?!"
Mrs. Watson had paused, slowly turning her head to give her daughter a deadpan glare.
"Soph, it's you who's gonna make her moods swing by blabber whole day near her ear."
"Ops! Sorry... my bad,"
Sophia squeaked, flashing a terribly sheepish smile.
But then she narrowed her eyes towards her mom...
"Weren't you asking her question after question from the morning?"
Mom just ignored her, rolling her eyes.
Every single time Jay so much as shifted her posture, someone in the house tried to stop her from doing anything remotely resembling effort.
Earlier in the evening, Jay had simply stood up from the couch and taken a single step toward the kitchen counter to fetch herself a glass of water.
Before her foot could even touch the floor properly,
Sophia had practically tackled her out of nowhere, gasping loudly as she shoved a freshly poured glass into Jay's hands.
"Where do you think you're going?!"
Sophia had interrogated, her eyes wide with shock.
"You need water?
I have water!
Don't move your legs!"
"I... I can walk five steps, Soph,"
Jay had stuttered, thoroughly bewildered.
"No! Zero steps!"
Even when Jay tried to pivot to something harmless-like checking her office emails to pass the time-she was instantly intercepted.
"I should at least review the quarterly budget files for tomorrow,"
Jay had murmured, reaching for her laptop bag resting near the table.
"The firm has a huge deadline-"
"Are you serious right now?!"
Sophia gasped, placing both of her hands on her hips.
"No work means no work!
That includes sitting at a desk and staring at boring laptop screens!"
"But Mom-"
"She's completely right, dear," a deep, quiet, authoritative voice cut her off.
Mr. Watson stepped out from his private study, setting his evening coffee mug down on the glass table.
He looked at Jay with a rare, incredibly soft fatherly warmth.
"I will personally handle all your pending files at the firm tomorrow.
You don't have to touch a single piece of paper. Just rest."
Before Jay could utter another word of protest, Mr. Watson placed his broad hands gently on her shoulders,
applying just enough pressure to force her firmly back down onto the soft sofa cushions.
"But Dad-"
"JAYYYYY!" all three of them chorused in complete, loud, synchronized unison.
Jay instantly threw both of her hands straight up into the air in total, utter surrender, letting out a long, dramatic, exhausted sigh.
"Okay! Okay! I'm staying right here!
I won't move a muscle!"
Now, as night fell, the clock was slowly ticking toward the exact hour Keifer usually returned home from his corporate meetings.
Jay was pacing back and forth across the spacious living room lobby, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as sheer nervousness consumed her.
Her hands were cold, her fingers restlessly twisting together.
How am I supposed to tell him?
What would his face look like?
Mrs. Watson, who was sitting on the sofa watching Jay walk in endless circles, looked at her with deep, maternal concern.
"Jay, anak... you've been pacing for so long,"
Mrs. Watson called out softly.
"Why don't you come sit down and rest on the couch for a bit? You must be tired."
Jay stopped in her tracks, turning around to look at her mother-in-law with an amused, slightly exasperated pout.
"Mom, I need to walk a bit,"
Jay explained softly, gesturing down at her legs.
"Otherwise my muscles will get jammed! You guys aren't even letting me have a glass of water by myself."
Mrs. Watson looked at Jay's flushed, anxious face, taking in the way her eyes kept darting nervously toward the main door.
She instantly understood that the walking wasn't about physical exhaustion-it was just Jay's way of burning off her overwhelming nervous energy before Keifer arrived.
Softening completely, Mrs. Watson smiled warmly and nodded.
"Alright, anak. Walk as much as you like."
Sophia, however, sitting right beside her mother, didn't catch the hint at all.
"But Jay!
Seriously, you shouldn't be standing so much!"
Sophia insisted, jumping up and pointing dramatically at the plush sofa cushions.
"The doctor said rest!
Come sit down right now!"
Jay slowly, agonizingly turned her head toward her sister-in-law.
Her dark eyes narrowed into a sharp, lethal glare-a look so menacingly cold it could freeze boiling water in a second.
Sophia froze mid-sentence.
The pointer finger she was using to indicate the sofa slowly drooped.
She took two cautious steps backward, ducking right behind her mother's shoulder for cover, her eyes wide with sudden terror.
"Mom..."
Sophia whispered loudly, her voice trembling dramatically.
"Mom, she's having mood swings!"
Mrs. Watson let out a bright, delighted laugh, shaking her head fondly at her daughter's antics.
"Told you, don't talk too much, you are irritating her!."
"Look at her eyes, Mom!
She wanted to eat my soul!"
Sophia squeaked from behind the couch.
Jay couldn't help the tiny, shy smile that broke through her fierce expression, though her hands quickly went back to fidgeting with her sweater hem as her anxiety flared up again.
And right at that exact, chaotic moment...
The heavy, grand front door swung open with a deep, echoing click.
The sound resonated through the silent mansion, and every single head in the room snapped toward the entrance in an instant.
Standing on the threshold, loosening his tie with one broad hand while holding his suit coat over his arm, was Keifer.
