(Always remember....I love puo)
Keifer stepped past the foyer and paused in his tracks, his sharp, dark eyes scanning the main living room with immediate suspicion.
His family was acting..... wrong.
His eyes first fell on his mother,
Mrs. Watson, who was sitting rigidly on the edge of the sofa.
She was biting her lower lip so hard it was turning white, desperately trying her best not to let a massive, room-brightening grin break across her face.
Beside her sat his father, who had a daily newspaper held up high in front of his face, completely blocking his head from view.
Keifer couldn't help but notice how Mr. Watson's broad shoulders were shaking uncontrollably with suppressed excitement.
"Dad?" Keifer asked, tilting his head as he unbuttoned his suit jacket.
"That newspaper is upside down."
Mr. Watson let out a loud, aggressive fake cough, hurriedly lowering the paper by an inch.
"Oh! No, it's not... I mean, it is, but... I..."
"You?" Keifer pressed, narrowing his eyes into a sharp, analytical stare.
"Umm...
yes!
I'm just trying to learn a new skill... yes!"
Keifer stared at his father in complete and utter disbelief.
"Skill?"
"Yes! The skill of reading an upside-down paper,"
Dad replied, flashing a terribly sheepish smile before snapping the page right back up in front of his face.
Keifer stood frozen in the hallway, blinking slowly.
Is he really the same Alberto Watson I met in the office this morning?
he muttered silently to himself.
Ignoring his father's completely bizarre behavior, Keifer turned his gaze toward Sophia.
She was aggressively nudging her shoulder against Jay's, muttering fast, hushed, threatening words into Jay's ear while giving Keifer the biggest, most unnatural grin he had ever seen on a human being.
He raised an authoritative brow.
"Soph?"
"Keifer... see Jay!" Sophia chirped loudly.
"I can see her."
"Oh, yes!"
Sophia clapped her hands together in sudden embarrassment, her cheeks turning bright red.
"I mean... see, she wanna tell you something!"
Before Jay could react, Sophia blurted it out and gave Jay a firm, overly enthusiastic push forward into the middle of the room.
Jay stumbled half a step, suddenly finding herself standing directly in front of her tall, intimidating husband.
The breath caught squarely in her lungs, and her heart began hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
"Hihi! Hey..."
Jay let out a small, painfully embarrassed laugh, her hands nervously clutching the hem of her sweater.
Keifer's serious expression softened instantly at the sight of her, though his confusion only deepened.
"Jay? What happened?
Also are you okay now?
Did you again felt dizziness or something?
Did you consult to doctor?"
He threw his questions one by one in single breath.
"Umm... that..."
Jay quickly darted her eyes over his broad shoulder.
Behind his back, Mrs. Watson and Sophia were aggressively gesturing-
pumping their fists in the air, mouthing words, and silently cheering her on like wildly energetic football coaches.
Mr. Watson had even lowered his upside-down newspaper just enough to give her a intense, encouraging nod.
Jay inhaled deeply, taking a hard, visible gulp.
"Actually it's... it's like..."
"Like?" Keifer prompted, taking a slow step closer to her.
"Like... it was like... I mean it is like...
you are going to..."
Keifer raised a brow, studying his wife.
She was practically sweating from head to toe out of sheer panic, her face flushed beet-red, and she was biting her lower lip nervously.
"Jay? Sunshine?
What happened? I'm going to what?"
"You."
"I?"
"Are."
"Are?"
"Going to..."
"Going to?"
"..."
"..."
"...rest."
Keifer gave her a completely flat, unblinking look.
"Rest?"
"Yes! You should rest!
You must be very tired from work!"
Jay blurted out instantly, snapping into a rigid, perfectly straight posture with a giant, artificially bright, sheepish smile.
Behind Keifer's back, Mrs. Watson, Mr. Watson, and Sophia all face-palmed in absolute, dramatic, synchronized unison.
After giving Jay a long, suspicious look, Keifer finally sighed, rubbing the back of his neck in pure exhaustion.
"Alright... if you say so,"
he muttered, reaching out to gently squeeze Jay's arm.
"You should rest too, sunshine. Don't stay up late."
With one last puzzled glance at his overly quiet family, Keifer turned on his heel and retreated upstairs toward their master bedroom.
The moment the sound of his bedroom door closing echoed down the staircase, Jay slowly turned back around... and gave the trio her absolute best, most innocent sheepish smile.
Because standing right there, like a panel of harsh judges, were
Sophia,
Mrs. Watson,
and Mr. Watson.
Sophia crossed her arms, her right eyebrow arching so high it almost met her hairline.
Mrs. Watson had her hands on her hips, her eyebrow raised in matching maternal disappointment.
Jay held her breath, bracing herself for the ultimate lecture.
Instead, Mr. Watson stepped forward with a soft chuckle.
He reached out and gently ruffled Jay's hair with fatherly warmth, completely breaking the tension.
"It's okay, kid. Take your time,"
he said gently, giving her a reassuring smile.
"There's no rush."
With that, Mr. Watson gave his wife a quick nod and quietly went off to his own room for the night.
The second he was gone, Sophia exploded into a hushed rage.
"Jay! What on earth was that?!"
Sophia asked, practically fuming as she threw her hands up in the air.
"Rest?! You told the man to go rest?!
You had one job!"
Jay pouted deeply, her shoulders slumping as she stared down at her feet.
Her dark eyes quickly glisten with unshed tears, her lower lip trembling just a tiny bit.
"I don't know..."
Jay whispered, her voice choking up as she rubbed her arm nervously.
"I was just... I got so nervous.
My mind went completely blank..."
Mrs. Watson's sharp posture melted instantly.
Seeing Jay's flushed, teary face, her motherly eyes softened into pure warmth.
She immediately stepped forward and pulled Jay into a tight, comforting hug.
Jay leaned into the embrace without hesitation, resting her cheek against Mrs. Watson's warm shoulder, letting out a long, shuddering sigh of relief.
"It's okay, anak!
It's completely okay,"
Mrs. Watson murmured softly, gently rubbing Jay's back.
"It's a huge thing. Anyone would be nervous."
Sophia's angry demeanor evaporated in a second.
Seeing her best friend so flustered and teary made her heart melt.
She let out a long exhale, stepping closer and wrapping her arms around both of them to join the hug.
"It's okay..." Sophia grumbled softly, though a fond smile tugged at her lips.
"I know my bestie is a little dumb sometimes, but it's okay."
Jay let out a wet, watery laugh against Mrs. Watson's shoulder, while Mrs. Watson chuckled quietly, shaking her head at her daughter.
After a long moment, Jay pulled back from the hug, wiping her eyes with the sleeves of her sweater.
"But what now?"
Jay asked, looking back and forth between the two of them with wide, helpless eyes.
"He's upstairs in the room.
If I go up there like this, I'll just panic all over again."
"Ummm..."
Mrs. Watson tapped her chin, deep in thought.
"Uhhh..."
Sophia narrowed her eyes, tapping her foot against the floor as her brain worked overtime.
The living room fell into a thoughtful silence for a few seconds-until Sophia's face suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree.
"YES! I have an idea!"
Sophia exclaimed, gasping so loudly Jay almost jumped out of her skin.
"What?!"
Jay and Mrs. Watson asked in unison.
"Come here!"
Sophia whispered excitedly, grabbing both of their wrists and pulling them tight into a tiny, conspiratorial circle.
Grinning like a mastermind, Sophia leaned into the middle, muttering the top-secret plan right into their ears...
**
Jay slowly opened the bedroom door and peeked inside.
Keifer was still sitting on the edge of their king-sized bed in his crisp office clothes, his tie loosened around his unbuttoned collar.
His fingers were flying across his laptop keyboard, completely engrossed in typing a response to his latest email.
Jay inhaled softly. "Keifer...?"
"Hmm..." he hummed absently, his dark eyes never leaving the glowing screen.
"Didn't you freshen up yet?"
That finally caught his attention.
Keifer paused his typing and looked up, his brow furrowing slightly as he met her gaze.
"Umm... actually, no.
I still had some emails to reply to, but..."
He stopped to think for a moment, glancing down at his heavy watch.
"I think I should go and freshen up first."
He shut his laptop and began pushing himself up from the bed.
Jay's brain short-circuited in pure panic.
"NOOOOOO!"
Jay shrieked.
Keifer froze mid-motion, his dark eyes widening as he looked back and forth around the room, completely unable to understand what on earth was wrong with his wife.
"What 'no'?"
he asked, staring at her in complete bewilderment.
"I... I mean, I... I think..."
Jay stuttered, her heart hammering against her ribs.
"You think...?"
Keifer prompted, raising a skeptical eyebrow as he observed her flushed, frantic face.
"Umm... I think..."
Jay's eyes darted frantically around the room until they finally landed on the adjoining door.
"Yes! I think I should go to the washroom first!"
Before Keifer could even process her words, Jay sprinted straight past him, ducked inside their master washroom, and slammed the door shut.
CLICK.
The lock turned firmly into place.
Keifer stood frozen right beside the bed, staring at the locked bathroom door in absolute, dead silence.
He slowly reached up and scratched the back of his head, his face a total mask of confusion.
"What's wrong with her now...?"
he muttered aloud to the empty room.
Inside the washroom, Jay rested her forehead against the cool wood of the locked door, her shoulders rising and falling with heavy, frantic breaths.
"Oh god...!"
she muttered under her breath, raising her wrist to wipe the imaginary sweat from her forehead.
Her heart was still beating like crazy, but the moment her gaze dropped down to her right hand, all her anxiety instantly evaporated.
Clutched tightly in her fingers was a sleek, white pregnancy test.
Jay's expression softened completely.
She gently placed her free palm flat against her smooth, flat stomach, a warm, radiant glow lighting up her features.
"I'm sorry, baby,"
she murmured softly, her voice switching into a sweet, tender baby tone as a fond smile bloomed across her face.
"I couldn't tell your daddy earlier...
but I'm sure he'll get to know now."
Taking a slow, steadying breath, she walked over to the marble counter and used the test.
Then came the longest three minutes of her life.
She stood there, watching the digital screen intently, her heart fluttering with every passing second.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Finally, the tiny indicator flashed, and the final result
appeared clear and bright.
POSITIVE.
Jay let out a breathless, watery laugh.
A single, hot tear escaped her left eye, tracing a path down her cheek, but she instantly wiped it away with the back of her hand, beaming at her reflection.
"Baby..."
she whispered in a light, affectionate chuckle, gently patting her stomach once more.
"...are you ready to get introduced to your daddy?"
She carefully placed the positive test right on the glass shelf in front of the mirror-
sitting perfectly in plain sight, right at eye level for anyone walking up to the sink-before turning around to head back to the bedroom door.
Jay stepped out of the washroom, holding her breath for a split second as she smoothed down her sweater, doing her absolute best to look totally normal.
"Done?"
Keifer asked, looking up from his laptop as he caught her coming out.
"Yep!"
Jay chirped, a little too much excitement slipping into her voice despite her best efforts.
Keifer chuckled at her mood swings and strange antics tonight.
Setting his laptop down on the nightstand, he stood up, taking a step closer to her.
He reached out and gently ruffled her soft hair, his dark eyes crinkling with an amused smile.
"You are such a kid,"
he murmured warmly.
The second the word kid slipped out of his mouth, something inside Jay's chest shifted.
A sudden, overwhelming surge of affection knocked the air right out of her lungs.
Before Keifer could walk past her toward the washroom,
Jay reacted on pure instinct-her hand shot out, catching his broad wrist.
Keifer stopped, glancing down at her small hand gripping his arm before lifting his gaze to meet her eyes.
But before he could even begin to process the intense, glossy look in her eyes,
Jay closed the distance, wrapping both of her arms tightly around his waist and burying her face directly into his chest.
Keifer blinked in surprise, looking down at the top of her dark head.
Softening completely, he wrapped his broad arms around her shoulders, pulling her flush against his body.
She stayed right there for a long moment, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart under her cheek.
"Sunshine?
Is there something wrong?
What happened?"
Keifer asked, his voice dropping into deep concern as he held her
tiny figure pressed against him.
Jay shook her head against his chest.
She slowly pulled back, looking up into his handsome face with a soft, radiant smile.
"Nope,"
she whispered, her dark eyes shining with hidden joy.
"I just felt like hugging you."
Keifer searched her face for a moment.
There was something different in her eyes-
a quiet, blooming secret he couldn't quite decode-but he didn't push her.
Instead, he leaned down, pressing his lips against her forehead in a long, tender kiss that made her naturally flutter her eyes closed.
He brought his warm hands up to cup her flushed cheeks, his thumb lightly stroking her skin.
"Okay,"
he murmured with a light chuckle, his dark eyes melting with affection.
"I'll be back soon. Then you can hug me even more."
.
As the washroom door clicked shut behind him, Jay's breath hitched.
She instantly began pacing back and forth across the soft bedroom rug, her hands clasped together in frantic, silent prayer.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Every single second felt like a painful eternity.
Time seemed to stretch into hours, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
And finally, after what felt like an absolute lifetime, the washroom door swung open.
Jay froze dead in her tracks.
Her breath caught squarely in her lungs, her heartbeat racing at a dangerous speed as her hand automatically flew to cover her flat belly.
She stood completely still, her eyes wide, waiting for his tears, his shock, his joyful reaction...
...
...
...
He stepped out, but-
Jay's glossy eyes narrowed into sharp, bewildered slits.
Keifer had walked out, but not even remotely in the way she had expected.
He was casually whistling a quiet tune, aggressively rubbing a small white towel against his wet, messy dark hair.
He was wearing an oversized black t-shirt and loose lounge pants, a lazy, relaxed smirk sitting comfortably on his face.
He caught her staring at him with one eyebrow raised so high it nearly hit her hairline.
"What happened?"
he asked, tossing the damp towel onto the nearby chair.
"You look so....normal?"
Jay blurted out, her mouth hanging open slightly.
Keifer stopped, glancing down at his clothes in confusion.
"Yes, but why...?"
"Didn't you... I... I mean,.... you are looking very... normal."
Keifer raised his brows, turning toward the full-length mirror near the closet to inspect himself from head to toe.
"Y... yeah, I think people look normal... before going to bed?"
"You didn't notice anything?!"
Jay pressed, stepping closer with her hands on her hips.
He simply shrugged his broad shoulders, completely lost.
"Jay... what are you saying?"
Jay stared at his calm, handsome face.
She suddenly understood-he hadn't seen the test.
But her brain completely short-circuited trying to figure out how on earth he could have missed a bright white plastic stick sitting right in the middle of the glass shelf!
(What Jay didn't know was that Keifer was an absolute creature of habit.
The moment he walked into the washroom, he had automatically tossed his damp towel directly onto the glass shelf to reach for his face wash, completely burying the tiny pregnancy test under thick layers of white terry cloth without even glancing at the glass.)
"Umm..."
Jay quickly forced a nervous, awkward smile onto her face.
"Nothing! You must be tired, let's just sleep."
"Sunshine... what is it?
Just tell me,"
Keifer asked, stepping closer with genuine concern in his dark eyes.
"No... no, it's nothing!
I was just... let me just sleep, I'm sleepy."
Keifer searched her face for a second, but decided not to push her.
"Oh, okay. Come," he murmured softly, holding out his broad, warm hand toward her.
Jay smiled, reaching out to take his hand-but right before her fingers brushed his palm, something sharp hit her mind.
"Keifer..."
"Hmm?"
"You go, I'll just come."
Before he could even open his mouth to ask where she was going,
Jay turned on her heel and sprinted straight into the washroom, shutting the door behind her once again.
Jay rushed inside the washroom and immediately went straight for the marble counter, her eyes searching for the glass shelf.
Her jaw instantly dropped.
The positive pregnancy test was
completely gone-or so she thought for a second, until she noticed the corner of the white plastic sticking out from underneath Keifer's damp, discarded face towel.
"Unbelievable..."
Jay groaned quietly to herself, throwing her hands up.
The man had literally thrown his towel right on top of it without looking!
She carefully pulled the test out from under the towel, wiping a stray drop of water off the digital screen.
The bold word POSITIVE was still shining back at her.
She just let out a soft exhale, but as her eyes caught her own reflection in the mirror, her irritation completely melted away into warmth.
"It's okay, baby,"
she whispered, a gentle chuckle escaping her lips as she fondly caressed her stomach.
"Your daddy is just a little dumb."
Stepping out of the washroom, she found Keifer already lying on the bed, propped up on one elbow as he waited for her.
He raised a brow, silently asking if she was really okay.
She just smiled and shook her head, slipping under the covers beside him.
She leaned in close, resting her head right over his beating heart and wrapping her arms tightly around his waist, immediately settling into her absolute place of peace and comfort.
Keifer wrapped his broad arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him and resting his chin tenderly on top of her head.
"I love you..." she muttered softly with a sweet smile.
"I love you too, wifey,"
Keifer whispered back, pressing a lingering kiss to the top of her head.
I love you too, baby,
Jay added inside her head, her smile widening as her eyes fluttered shut.
And don't worry, daddy loves you too-he just doesn't know about you yet.
But he'll find out soon, and then he'll give you your own special welcome.
Wrapped in each other's warmth, the little family of three quietly drifted into a peaceful sleep, which he wasn't even knowing exists.
