Beatris looked up, alarmed. "What? Silas, no, I can't...."
"It's not a request," he cut her off gently but firmly. "It's an order."
Before she could argue further, he stood and helped her up. She swayed a little, and he placed a steadying hand on her back.
They left the office together, moving slowly through the quiet corridor. Nurses glanced at them curiously, but no one said a word. Silas's expression made sure of that.
When they reached the parking lot, he opened the passenger door of her car and guided her in. She sat silently, her face turned toward the window, lost in thought.
The drive was quiet for the first few minutes. The city outside buzzed faintly, distant horns, the murmur of life continuing, but inside the car, it was calm, the only sound the soft hum of the engine.
Halfway to the Miracle Residency, Silas pulled over near a small roadside restaurant.
