Chapter 25: The Dog Sage
Night had fallen, and Ruo Feng was enveloped in darkness.
Having discovered the secrets of the scrolls in the secret chamber, his mind was a mix of disbelief and amusement.
The scrolls written by Madara Uchiha were formidable. There were no low-level jutsu; the "weakest" technique recorded was Fire Release—Dragon Flame Singing Technique. Even that lowest-level jutsu would be challenging for a Jonin to master, let alone for Ruo Feng, a freshly trained and still inexperienced ninja.
Though there were no basic jutsu, the number of high-level techniques was staggering. Wood Release, Sage Mode, Wood Release again… all legendary abilities were detailed, along with Madara's analysis and insights. Even techniques Madara hadn't fully mastered, like Sage Mode or advanced Wood Release, were meticulously explained.
Beyond these, forbidden jutsu appeared as well: Reanimation, Flying Thunder God, Dead Demon Consuming Seal… Madara had recorded and analyzed them all.
In short, the formidable techniques of the First and Second Hokage were carefully documented. Clearly, this was Madara's analysis—after all, one's enemies are often the ones who know them best.
All this research greatly benefited Ruo Feng. Though he could not train in these techniques yet, they would prove invaluable in the future.
So, Ruo Feng felt a strange mix of amusement and exasperation. He laughed because he could only observe these jutsu without practicing them, but he cried inwardly because one day, he would undoubtedly master them all.
He exhaled a deep breath, shaking off the thoughts. He was still a beginner; it would do no good to aim too high too early. Gradually growing stronger was the better path. With his grandfather's scrolls containing both jutsu and insights, there was already plenty to study and refine.
Ruo Feng squinted, ready to sleep, but the shock of today's discoveries kept him awake.
After a moment of contemplation, he opened his eyes and gazed at a scroll in his bedroom—the Summoning Scroll he had brought from the secret chamber.
Ruo Feng was intrigued. His repertoire of trainable jutsu was small, and summoning techniques were among the few he could attempt. Summoning jutsu required no complex skill; it merely involved forming a contract and calling forth a summon to fight.
With determination, Ruo Feng flipped over, stood up, and approached the scroll.
His eyes gleamed. "This Summoning Clan of Beast King Mountain, though wiped out by Madara, still represents a hidden summoning realm. That's a huge gain. I also need a vast space—my own space—to store valuable things."
He muttered to himself, opening the scroll. Its blank pages made him feel a twinge of pity. A once-great summoning clan had been entirely wiped out by Madara.
Ruo Feng remembered what Jiraiya had said about blank summoning scrolls—they indicated one of three possibilities:
1.No one had ever signed the scroll.
2.The summoning clan it represented had gone extinct.
3.The clan rejected all attempts at forming contracts.
This scroll bore no names. It was clear—the summoning clan had been annihilated.
Ruo Feng felt a pang of disappointment. This had once been the Uchiha clan's own summoning clan—not an ordinary collection of beasts. In the world of Naruto, truly powerful summoning beasts were rare: the toads of Myoboku Mountain, the snakes of Ryūchi Cave, and the slugs of Shikkotsu Forest.
Outside these three, there were other strong summons, but they lacked clans. Some had clans but weren't powerful. Few species had both a structured clan and strong individuals. Rarer still were those capable of training with natural chakra. Only Myoboku, Ryūchi, and Shikkotsu offered that.
Perhaps the Uchiha clan's summoning beasts were not on par with Myoboku, but they were likely comparable. Sadly, Madara had destroyed them all.
Ruo Feng squinted. "It's fine… gaining a vast summoning space is still valuable. And the junk in the garbage station can now be stored there. Otherwise, who knows when the station would decompose it? This will give the trash a place to go."
Moonlight spilled over the room. Ruo Feng pricked his finger, letting blood drip onto the scroll, and carefully wrote his name:
"Uchiha Ruo Feng!"
Using his blood, he inscribed his true name.
He stared at the blood-stained scroll. Nothing happened.
Ruo Feng frowned. "What… according to Jiraiya, writing your name on a summoning scroll works like this: if the name fades slowly, the clan rejects any contract. If it darkens to black, the clan is extinct. If it remains intact, the clan accepts the contract."
He studied the scroll intently.
Suddenly, the scroll emitted a faint chakra. The energy flowed steadily, infusing the characters of Uchiha Ruo Feng.
A surge of energy filled his body.
Ruo Feng stared, stunned. "What's happening?! Why is chakra flowing into me?!"
An aged voice echoed: "Ah… a new contract holder has appeared. Alas, one of the Uchiha bloodline. Very well… born of the Uchiha, bound by the Uchiha… the contract is accepted."
The scroll vanished into a white mist.
Ruo Feng's body tingled as the energy surged, flooding his system.
The voice spoke again: "Contract holder… receive this gift well today. Come to Beast King Mountain tomorrow. Call me… the Dog Sage."
Ruo Feng's eyes reddened in awe. Words failed him. The "gift" was enhancing both his chakra and physical constitution.
He felt as if his body were being torn apart and rebuilt—not gentle like a medicinal bath, nor warm like magical beast meat—but a grueling, excruciating power infusion.
Though pained, he realized its purpose. "New garbage has appeared in the garbage station… as I grow stronger, it produces new junk. Painful as it is, this energy is strengthening my body!"
Muttering to himself, the overwhelming surge of power finally lulled Ruo Feng into deep, dreamless sleep.
