The red emergency lights made the corridor look horrific.
Lucian didn't look back. He moved with his footsteps silent against the marble.
"Marrok," Lucian said into his comms.
"They're past the lobby, sir," Marrok's voice crackled, strained and distant. "Elevator bank three. They've bypassed the floor lock. I'm dropping the security gates on the stairwell to buy you some time."
"Go to the second extraction point," Lucian commanded. "Do not engage the Enforcer directly. That is an order."
He didn't wait for an answer. He reached back and gripped Adrian's shoulder, steering him toward the service stairwell.
Adrian stumbled, his boots skidding on the polished floor. His mind was racing, trying to outrun the panic. He wasn't a soldier or a vampire but he was used to running away a lot. And right now, his brain was trying to map the building's layout against the enemy's movements.
"Wait," Adrian gasped. He dug his heels in, forcing Lucian to stop.
