The safehouse was concrete block in the industrial part of the city. It wasn't like the penthouse. There were no floor-to-ceiling glass walls, no designer leather, and no city lights to distract the eye. This was a fortress built for survival, hidden beneath the disguise of a chemical warehouse.
The armored transport hissed as the pressure seals released. Lucian was out first.
He moved with a grace that was entirely new for him. He scanned the perimeter, his head tilting at angles as if he were listening to frequencies only he could reach.
'He was afraid.' Adrian realized. He saw it in the way Lucian's fingers twitched near the holster of his weapon. The power spike in the corridor had been a revelation, but for a man who lived and died by total control, it was also a threat.
"Clear," Lucian said. His voice deeper than usual.
Adrian stepped out of the vehicle. His legs felt like they jelly. He looked at the heavy steel door of the safehouse.
