Chapter 42 - Map

Silas walked over to the parking lot and saw Alice already at his car.

"Hello!" Alice said excitedly.

Silas smiled.

"Are you excited?"

Alice nodded.

"Yeah." Then Alice looked over at the stairs.

"Are we waiting on Kate?"

"Yeah, we need to drive her home first." Silas responded.

Alice nodded, she was just as excited as always.

The one who waits on something good, never waits too long.

She knew this.

Silas took out his phone to check the time.

"Kate should be here any minute now."

Just as Silas said that, Kate walked down the stairs and walked towards them.

"Alright, let's hurry so it doesn't get too late." Silas said.

Kate nodded and got in the car, Alice was already sitting in the passenger seat and changing stations.

Silas also got in.

"Alright, let's go." With that they were off.

As they neared Kate's house she asked.

"Are you two going to Port Angeles?"

Silas nodded.

"Yeah, Alice is helping me to update my wardrobe."

Kate nodded.

Alice turned around and asked.

"Do you want us to buy anything when we go there?"

Kate shook her head.

"I was just curious."

Just then Silas stopped in front of Kate's house.

He turned around.

"Are you sure?"

Kate nodded.

"Yeah."

She grabbed her bag and got out.

"Alice, Silas, see you two tomorrow."

Silas nodded.

"See you." Alice said.

Kate nodded and closed the door.

Silas slowly drove off.

"Alright let's hurry, we don't want the stores to close before we get there:"

Alice chuckled.

"That would be quite underwhelming."

They listened to music while speeding towards Port Angeles.

"Are we close?" Silas asked.

Alice looked out.

"Yeah, 10 more minutes."

Silas nodded.

10 minutes later.

"Are you sure we're on the right road?" Silas asked.

Alice smiled confidently.

"Of course."

But inwardly she was panicking. Did I lead us wrong? But… I looked out the road beforehand.

Alice usually never went to Port Angeles… so she didn't know the road initially.

But after a few Google searches, and asking her family she was confident she would be able to lead them right.

Apparently not.

Should I tell him? Alice looked at Silas's face.

No! I can't. How embarrassing. I've lived in Forks for so long yet I can't find Port Angeles?

Sigh. How could she be blamed? She just liked to be at home.

Silas read Alice like a book. They were definitely lost.

He just didn't want to embarrass her by revealing he knew. Also he wanted to see how she would be getting them out of this.

If the excuse was good enough… then he would play along. To let her save face.

Alice's mind was running overdrive trying to find a way to get out of this. Just then she spotted a sign.

"There! Left, turn left."

Silas complied.

A few minutes later, they came to a roadblock.

"No!" Alice said, feigning annoyance.

"I only know this road to Port Angeles."

Hehe, I saw the construction sign and knew this road would be impossible to cross, now I can use this excuse to check the map.

Silas was impressed. She was quite lucky.

"Use the map, it's in the glove compartment." Silas said.

Alice nodded and took out the map, after a minute or two, she finally found where they were and how to get to Port Angeles.

"We need to get out to the previous road and turn right."

Silas nodded and turned the car around.

As he drove down the road he glanced over at Alice's face. She was furrowing her brows.

Did she know how to read a map?

Alice was confused.

Was this really the right road? It felt wrong.

A few more minutes passed and it seemed like they were on the right path.

A few signs had shown up on the way, featuring the distance to Port Angeles.

Silas was a little bored. He glanced over at Alice who was peacefully looking out the window.

No! He couldn't let this go.

"Was the first road you led us down some weird short cut?"

Alice looked over.

"That's right."

Silas nodded.

"Impressive, especially considering that it was leading the opposite direction."

Alice's smile froze. How cunning!

"It just looked that way." Alice said.

Silas chuckled.

"Yeah you're probably right…. after all, you're the local.

Alice regained confidence.

"Right!"

Silas smiled. How silly.

A few minutes later,. and they had arrived.

"We made it!" Alice said gleefully.

Silas raised an eyebrow,

"Was there ever any doubt?"

Alice froze.

"Of course not, I'm just really excited."

Silas nodded.

"Right."

"Yes."

Alice narrowed her eyes at Silas. He knows… no, no, how could he? I'm just being paranoid.

Not everyone is out to get you.

After driving around for a while they finally found a good parking spot close to the clothing store.

"Is this it?" Silas asked.

Alice nodded.

"This was the clothing store in Port Angeles with the highest rating on Google."

Silas glanced over.

"Have you never shopped here before?"

Alice shook her head.

"No."

Silas furrowed his brows. How reassuring. Sigh.

"Let's go in." Alice grabbed Silas's arm and dragged him.

"Be careful, you will make me fall."

Alice slowed down and said embarrassedly.

"Sorry."

Silas narrowed his eyes.

"Also, stop pulling my arm."

Alice was about to let go.

"Here." Silas said.

Alice looked down and saw Silas's open hand.

"Take it."

Alice felt embarrassed. Holding hands? Already?

Finally after a few moments to gather her courage did she finally grab his hand.

"Let's go." She quickly dragged him inside to hide her embarrassment.

She had already forgotten Silas's plea to slow down.

Silas felt the force pulling his arm and sighed. She's got the memory of a gold fish.

This wasn't quite true. Alice remembered his plea, but this was payback for his teasing, and making her grab his hand… he should've taken the initiative.

This was Alice's thoughts at least.

They entered the clothing store and were immediately met with the smell of new clothes.

It seems this smell excited Alice as a smile formed on her lips.

"Here, let's look over here first."

...
