Chapter 78 - Conceptual Paint

"Kids! It's time to end class!" The teacher yelled out at the front.

The students all started to pack up their brushes, paint, canvases, etc.

Silas was no different, he started to pack up his stuff.

When he had put it back where on their shelves he looked at his painting.

I don't even know what this is… it looks like the concept paint puked on a canvas.

Just then a voice rang out.

"Wow! Silas! That's amazing!" It was the teacher who had arrived behind him at some point.

"Thank you, teacher." Silas responded.

The teacher nodded and picked up the canvas and took a closer look.

"Could I keep this?" She said after inspecting it for a few minutes.

Silas shrugged his shoulders.

"Sure, I don't mind."

The teacher nodded.

Silas then helped Alice clean up, she had used more colors than him, thus she had made a bigger mess.

They were the last to leave, and just as Silas stepped out of the classroom he heard a loud murmur.

"What a nice painting, these lines, the colors… perfect!"

"How does one achieve this… sigh, some just got talent."

Hearing the teacher's ramblings he had to hold down a laugh.

Art… no, abstract art is truly for the ones that can't be good at anything else than scribbling paint.

Portraits, architecture paintings, etc, that need talent, hard work… that's "real" art.

Alice hit his arm.

"You're doing that weird smile again."

Silas pursed his lips.

"I did not."

"You did."

Silas scoffed and gave Alice a kiss on the cheek.

"Let's meet at the car."

Alice nodded with a smile and walked off.

Silas headed to his locker and grabbed his stuff.

Now it was time for biology.

He walked towards the biology classroom at a calm pace, no need to stress.

Stressing is bad for you, unless it's controlled stress, then it's good.

If you can control your stress well, then you can prevent a lot of anxiety.

'Cause anxiety is just stress to be, or before stress.

Since you go and think about the stress you might experience in the future because of certain situations.

But if you can control your stress well, then you won't worry as much, and thus have less anxiety.

The sum of it is, if you can trust your ability to handle stress, then you're less likely to get stuck in anxious anticipation.

If that makes sense.

Just then Silas arrived at the biology classroom, Mr. Banner was writing something on the board.

After Silas took a few steps into the classroom he could see that it was about cocaine, and how it acted in the synapse.

He looked at his spot in the corner and walked over, Kate was already sitting there, sketching up a synapse.

Clearly she wanted to be ahead, since the rest of the class hadn't arrived.

"What's up?" Silas asked as he sat down.

Kate kept writing.

"Nothing, just getting my notes done."

Silas heard that and rolled his eyes. Yeah? No shit? Even a blind person could see that.

The class soon started.

After the teacher explained how cocaine traps neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft.

And since the dopamine can't be picked up again it starts to flood and accumulate in the cleft.

This causes the high and euphoria.

Then he talked about Parkinson's disease, which causes the dopamine producing neurons in the substantial nigra to die.

And since dopamine is crucial for smooth movements it isn't good.

Then protein builds up and forms abnormal clumps inside the neurons to interfere with functions.

And as neurons die, they make less dopamine, thus movement becomes slow, stiff, and shaky.

Then he went on to talk about Multiple sclerosis or MS.

Which is basically just the immune system that attacks the myelin, the protective coating around neuron axons.

And since myelin is a fat that conducts and speeds up the electric signals in the axon, without it, the signals slow down or die entirely.

Apparently we are supposed to know all this for the test in a week.

If you just need to remember it, it's kinda easy, but if you have to use the knowledge to solve stuff, it instantly becomes way harder.

But class passed, and soon the bell rang.

"Finally." Silas stretched.

He looked over at Kate.

"Aren't you tired from all this writing?"

Kate glanced at him.

"Not really, I've trained my hands, so they're used to it."

Silas nodded.

When they stood up and Kate was fully packed Silas smirked at her.

"Are you ready for Port Angeles?"

Kate glanced at him.

"Why are you so excited?"

Silas's smirk froze.

What is it with these women around me and pissing on my parade.

Why are you smiling? It's weird.

You're smiling again.

Why are you so excited?

Like… seriously, can't I just be happy? Why the need to be so condescending?

I've never acted like that against you, have I?

Silas recovered fast.

"What? Can't I be excited for excitement? We're gonna have fun, no?"

Kate nodded.

"I guess so, we've still not decided on what to do yet, what if we just stare at paint dry for a few hours?"

Hearing this negativity, Silas couldn't help but curl his lips. Seriously?

"No need to go into it with negativity."

Just then they arrived at Silas's locker.

He quickly opened it and threw his stuff in.

Then he followed Kate to her locker.

She took out some books from her bag and put them in her locker.

Then she grabbed a couple of others and put them in her bag.

Silas shook his head at the sight. What a study crazed loony.

He got woken up from his thoughts by Kate's locker door smacking shut.

Silas smiled at Kate.

"Let's go, Alice might already be waiting outside."

Kate nodded and fell in behind him as they walked towards the exit.

When they arrived outside, Silas could see Alice down at the car from the top of the stairs.

She also saw them and waved.

Silas waved back, Kate on the other hand looked a little embarrassed.

She is quite socially anxious, so waving without a clear target in sight probably makes her nervous.

Silas started walking down the stairs at a brisk pace.

Kate dragging her heavy bag followed.

When they got to the car Alice stood on her tip toes and gave Silas a kiss.

Then she looked at Kate who was clearly struggling with her bag.

She then turned to Silas with a frown.

"Why didn't you help Kate with her bag, can't you see its heavy?"

Silas was confused. What?

Before he could say anything Kate stepped forward.

"It's fine."

Ahh, savior o savior, like the light of the sun to drive away the darkness of despair.

He shot Kate a grateful look, what he got back was a fast wink.

Alice saw this and just smiled.

"Let's get in, I wanna get to Port Angeles before it's dark out."

"Yeah." Kate agreed and got in the back seat.

Silas opened the passenger door for Alice and she got in.

He then sat down in the driver's seat himself.

"Everyone got a seat belt?"

"Yup." x2.

Then let's go!

...

Enjoy. Mwah~
