"Here's your food. Hope it tastes good." The waiter placed the plates on the table and walked off.
Silas looked at the steaming hot food in front of him with a smile, he had picked kicken stroganoff with rice.
Quite respectable.
Kate had picked salmon with some kind of glaze on, and to that she chose parmesan drizzled fries.
Silas had advised… against her meal, who wants to eat something like that at a restaurant?
There are better choices.
"Alice, are you sure you're not gonna eat anything?" Kate asked, concerned.
Alice, who was watching Silas's plate, looked over at her with a slight smile.
"Yeah, I'm fasting."
The excuse wasn't quite enough, Kate was still worried.
"But aren't you always fasting?" She asked uncertainly.
Alice's face froze for a second. Yes, it was quite the overused excuse.
"Well… it has to do with the medicine I take, I can only eat at certain times otherwise I get nauseous."
Kate seemed to accept the excuse.
Alice's dad was a doctor… who was she to oppose him? He probably knew what was best for his daughter.
The dinner passed in a flash, they had a pleasant conversation.
And they also decided on what to do next.
They were gonna go to the movie theatre to watch a movie.
After they were done eating the waiter came over again with the bill.
Silas was the one who had to pay, not that he cared.
After they walked out Silas looked at the moon and took a deep breath.
The moon is really beautiful tonight.
He reached out and grabbed Alice's hand and gave her a kiss.
After separating Alice smiled.
"Kissing in the moonlight, quite romantic." She teased.
Silas raised an eyebrow in feigned anger.
"Aren't I always very romantic?"
Alice locked eyes with him and just as she was about to respond.
"Ahem…"
Kate was standing on the side, she had been watching their lovey dovey interaction and felt sour.
No need to rub her face in it.
"Can you two do this in the car… I'm kinda cold."
Alice nodded and pulled Silas along as she followed Kate.
Kate oh Kate.
Did you have to ruin my romantic moment with Alice? Couldn't you see that we had a moment?
Why didn't you third wheel properly?
Silas lamented.
A few minutes later they arrived back at the car.
Silas unlocked it and Kate sat down in the backseat to escape the chilly evening air.
Silas opened the door for Alice and looked around as she sat down.
"What a pity those alien hunters are gone, I had some questions for them."
Alice, who had just sat down, rolled her eyes at him and closed the door.
What got into her? Silas thought as he walked to the drivers side.
When he sat down Alice was sitting with her arms crossed, clearly she was a little angry.
"Are you angry?" Silas asked as he started the car.
Alice glanced at him.
"Yeah, a little, why do you have to joke about those two?"
Silas was confused, is she mad about this?
He put the car in drive and drove out of the parking spot.
"I was just joking, I don't think it's that serious."
Alice blinked at him.
"They have seen…" Alice cut off, Kate was still in the backseat.
"It's dangerous for them to keep living in their delusions, what if they die out there cause you egged them on?"
"It could have so easily been avoided."
Silas let out a chuckle.
"There's no need to pity them, they like what they do, and what I do won't change that."
Kate, who had been silent in the back seat, leaned forward.
"He's right, you know, I don't think they are hunting for attention or validation, if they were they wouldn't do what they do."
Alice curled her lips.
"Maybe… but there was no need to play into their delusions, it's being unnecessarily mean."
Kate shook her head, she didn't agree, it was just some fun.
Just then Silas spoke up.
"Enough about this."
"How did you two think the day went? Did you guys have fun?"
Kate smiled.
"Yeah, I had fun, except for when Alice was choking me out in the clothing store."
Alice's eyebrows shot up, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"Hey! I was helping you pick out fashion, I didn't want you to be homeless looking."
Kate rolled her eyes.
"Now who's unnecessarily mean?"
Alice let out a chuckle at Kate's response.
"Fair."
"I did have a lot of fun, especially in the clothing store."
"Sadist." Kate quipped.
Alice turned back and winked at Kate.
Feeling mocked, Kate crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back in the seat.
Silas quickly intervened.
"I also had a lot of fun, especially the alien hunters."
Alice shot him a glare.
"Em… and the clothes shopping of course, that was definitely the star of the show."
Hearing this Alice nodded approvingly.
Kate shot him a glare.
Spineless coward! Like a dog on a leash. Arf arf.
Silas ignored her, she wasn't him, what did she know?
The conversation gradually turned warmer, less tense.
Before they knew it, they passed the Forks sign.
They had been listening to music and vibing most of the way.
Even the usually taciturn Kate was signing along and leaning side to side.
As they drove into Forks they got passed by two police cars with their sirens on.
It seems something has happened.
Alice turned down the volume.
"Seems something's happened." She said.
Kate leaned forward.
"Follow them, let's see what's up."
Silas nodded, he thought that sounded like a good idea.
A few minutes later they arrived at a forest trail parking spot.
You would usually find hikers, cars/vans and people parking their mobile homes/RV/campers.
When they arrived a familiar RV came into view.
The graffitied green alien head on the side was too conspicuous.
But… something was wrong.
Police were everywhere, and so were ambulance personnel.
They were moving two stretchers out of the forest.
Seeing this Silas had a bad feeling.
It can't be those two… right?
Kate and Alice were also worried, this was too much of a coincidence.
Just then one of the ambulance personnel shouted.
"He's alive! This one is still breathing!"
Everyone rushed over there.
Silas looked closer and saw a familiar face.
Sigh…
It was indeed those two, it seems they ran into the trio.
"Is that… one of the alien hunters?" Kate asked hesitantly.
Silas nodded.
He couldn't help but purse his lips.
"It seems they'd heard the rumors about bloodless corpses…" Alice said.
Silas nodded.
Sadly it was not aliens, just hungry vampires.
"Let's leave." Silas started the car again and put it in drive.
The rest of the ride was quiet, even when they arrived at Kate's house, there were just some weak goodbyes.
As they headed towards the Cullens house Silas sighed.
"I can't help but feel a little guilty about egging them on, maybe you were right."
Alice turned her head from looking out the window.
"However much I like to hear that… I don't think it was your fault."
"As you and Kate said earlier, this was probably always their fate."
Silas pursed his lips. Alice was right, but he still felt a little guilty.
After all he had no enmity with those two, he even liked them a little.
It would be a little cold to say he didn't care at all.
