Fortunately, it didn't take long for Kaden to recover from his emotional farewell.
After crying himself to sleep in the car on their way back to Granavilés, he spent the rest of the day in a quieter, more subdued mood than usual. But children are resilient, and by the next morning, he seemed to have bounced back enough to face the new day.
At breakfast, they gathered around the long dining table. To Roseanne's surprise, it wasn't just her, Kaden, and Czar, but Czar's father, Vittorio, was there as well. Czar sat at the center, his father to his right, while Roseanne and Kaden sat together on his left.
Vittorio looked different from the imposing man she had met before. Gone was the bright gallant white suit, today he wore a simple, comfortable shirt and trousers, looking almost like any other grandfather.
Roseanne wondered if his presence was a sign of acceptance or if he had simply come out of curiosity about the boy he had only recently acknowledged.
