Roseanne had grown braver around him.
It was something Czar noticed more and more lately, she no longer cowered or hesitated in front of him the way she used to. Instead, she met his gaze without flinching, sometimes even challenging him.
She had the audacity to make him wait in the car for ten minutes every morning, insisting they arrive at the office separately so people wouldn't suspect anything.
She had flat-out refused him when he had asked her to have lunch with him on her first day at the main company. She always chose to eat with the other assistants, laughing and chatting with them as if she'd known them for years.
Czar had told her countless times not to talk about other men in front of him but she seemed to take a special pleasure in ignoring that rule, describing Wilhelm's efficiency or Frederic's wit with a smile that made something prickly stir in his chest.
What was the point of coming to work in the same company if she was going to keep him at arm's length?
