Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 – The Beginning of the Legend

October 7, 2013 – The First Day of Filming

The New York chill cut through the air that autumn morning. Jacob Stewart got out of the car that had taken him to the film set and looked around, feeling a shiver run down his spine—and it wasn't just from the cold wind.

He was about to film his first movie. Not only that: he was the protagonist.

The journey from the streets to here had been brutal. Exhausting training, aches and pains all over his body, memorizing the script, mental preparation... But now he was ready. He was no longer the broken man who had met Chad Stahelski on that hot August afternoon.

He was John Wick.

"Ready for this?" Chad's voice interrupted his thoughts.

Jacob turned and saw the director approaching with a discreet smile.

"I've never been so ready for anything in my life."

Chad patted him on the shoulder.

"Good. Because today your real test begins."

Jacob nodded, took a deep breath, and followed Chad onto the set.

The studio was bustling. Crews were setting up cameras, adjusting lighting, and testing the sets. The sounds of walkie-talkies and hurried footsteps echoed through the space. Jacob had never seen anything like it up close.

He was led to a reserved area to meet some of the other actors who would be part of the film.

The first to approach was a tall man, dressed in a black overcoat and with a friendly smile on his face.

"You must be Jacob Stewart. The new John Wick."

Jacob recognized the face immediately. Ian McShane, a Hollywood veteran, the actor playing Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel.

"Yes, that's me. It's a pleasure to meet you," Jacob said, extending his hand.

Ian shook it firmly and studied the new actor with experienced eyes.

"Chad told me your story. Man, you really came from hell to be here."

Jacob nodded, not knowing exactly how to respond. — Let's just say I got a second chance.

Ian smiled.

— And it looks like you're making good use of it.

Before they could continue the conversation, a female voice was heard behind them.

— So this is the man who stole everyone's role.

Jacob turned around and saw a tall woman with dark hair and intense eyes. Adrianne Palicki, who would be playing the assassin Ms. Perkins.

— Nice to meet you too — Jacob replied, laughing.

She crossed her arms and observed him.

— Did you really live on the streets before this?

The entire set seemed to fall silent for a moment. Jacob noticed that several crew members were listening.

He hesitated for a second, but then nodded.

— Yes.

Adrianne stared at him for a moment and then smiled wryly.

— That's awesome.

Another actor approached, this time a muscular man with a face that Jacob immediately recognized.

— Willem Dafoe — Jacob murmured, surprised.

The legendary actor smiled and extended his hand.

— Jacob Stewart. We finally meet.

Jacob shook his hand, still impressed to be talking to someone he grew up watching in movies.

— I greatly admire your work.

— And now you're a part of it — said Willem.

Jacob realized that everyone around him was looking at him with genuine respect. Many there had spent years struggling to get where they were, but no one had a story like his.

Adrianne lightly punched Jacob's shoulder.

— You're an inspiration.

Ian nodded.

— I agree. Knowing that you've come this far after everything you've been through... It gives this film a different meaning.

Jacob felt a lump in his throat, but forced himself to smile.

— I hope to live up to this opportunity.

— I think you already are — said Chad.

And then, the first assistant director shouted:

— EVERYONE IN YOUR PLACES! LET'S START!

It was time to work. The first scene filmed was one of the most symbolic in the film: John Wick receiving the dog Daisy from his deceased wife.

Jacob held the puppy in his arms while the cameras were being adjusted. He felt the weight of the scene. This wasn't just an introduction to the character. It was the soul of the film.

Chad approached and placed a hand on his shoulder.

— This scene is about love and loss. John doesn't say much, but everything needs to be in his eyes.

Jacob nodded and took a deep breath.

— I understand.

When the director shouted "Action!", Jacob was no longer there.

It was John Wick holding the last gift from his dead wife.

It was a broken man, holding that little creature as if it were his last connection to the world.

When the scene ended, Chad remained silent for a few seconds before saying:

— CUT!

The crew let out a soft murmur of approval. Jacob looked at the faces around him and realized that many people were moved.

Chad smiled.

— You are John Wick.

During the following months, filming took place throughout New York and the surrounding areas.

Jacob completely immersed himself in the role.

He ran through dark alleys in the rain, filmed fight scenes in neon-lit nightclubs and drove cars in electrifying chases through the city streets.

His intense training was put to the test countless times. He performed his own action scenes, executing shots flawlessly, fighting with precision, and maintaining the intensity of John Wick in every scene.

The other actors were impressed by his dedication.

"—You're putting on a show, man," said Adrianne, after a fight scene between the two.

"—I've never seen a newcomer pick up the pace so quickly," commented Willem Dafoe.

Even Ian McShane, always skeptical, was eventually convinced.

"—If I didn't know your story, I'd think you'd been doing this for years."

But for Jacob, this wasn't just a movie.

It was his new life.

The last scene filmed was one of the most iconic: John Wick, wounded, bleeding, walking alone with a new dog, disappearing into the streets.

When Chad yelled "Cut" for the last time, a silence fell over the set.

And then, everyone started to applaud.

Jacob stood still for a moment, feeling the weight of that moment.

He had done it.

The man who once slept in the cold streets of Los Angeles was now the protagonist of one of the most anticipated action films of the year.

Chad approached and shook his hand.

" You're not just an actor anymore. You are John Wick."

Jacob smiled.

" And this is just the beginning."

The future lay before him. And he was ready to face it.
