Chapter 10 – Jacob Stewart on Good Morning America
February 6, 2014 – The Dawn of a New Life
The clock read 5:30 a.m. when Jacob Stewart opened his eyes in his New York hotel room. Unlike the other mornings he had experienced over the years, he wasn't waking up in a cold alley or on a park bench.
He was in a luxurious suite, about to appear live on Good Morning America, one of the most-watched morning shows in the United States.
Jacob took a deep breath and got up, walking to the window. From the eighth floor of the hotel, he could see the sun beginning to rise over the city that never sleeps.
"Good morning, New York…" he murmured to himself.
His cell phone vibrated on the bedside table. It was a message from Richard Calloway, his agent.
Richard: Car leaves at 6:15 a.m. Wear something elegant, but still with that John Wick vibe. This is the moment you solidify your place in the industry. Jacob smiled and replied:
Jacob: Understood, boss.
He took a hot shower, put on a well-fitting black suit with a turtleneck underneath, styled his hair, and checked his appearance in the mirror.
He was ready.
Arrival at Times Square – ABC Studios
The black car glided through the streets of New York, and Jacob watched the city go by through the window. It was strange to think that, less than a year ago, he was walking the same streets aimlessly, without hope. Now, he was on his way to one of the most-watched shows in the country.
When they arrived at the ABC studios, right in Times Square, a small crowd had already gathered outside, holding signs with his name and messages of support.
Jacob's eyes widened.
"I have fans now?"
Richard laughed beside him.
"Welcome to fame, my friend."
The driver parked, and an ABC producer came to greet them. — Jacob, welcome to Good Morning America! We're so excited to have you here.
— The pleasure is mine — replied Jacob, shaking the man's hand.
They were led inside the building, where Jacob was taken to the dressing room. While a makeup artist made the final touches, a production assistant gave the last instructions.
— Your interview will be with Robin Roberts. It will be relaxed, nothing too technical. The focus will be on your story and your role in John Wick. Are you ready?
Jacob smiled.
— You bet I am.
The Beginning of the Interview
The Good Morning America intro appeared on the screen, and host Robin Roberts smiled at the camera.
— Good morning, America! Today we have a very special interview. Our next guest has one of the most inspiring stories we've ever heard. A year ago, he was living on the streets of Los Angeles, and now he's the star of one of the most anticipated action films of the year. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome… Jacob Stewart!
The studio audience cheered warmly as Jacob entered. He smiled, waved to the audience, and shook Robin's hand before taking his seat.
"Jacob, welcome to Good Morning America!"
"Thank you so much. It's an honor to be here."
Robin smiled.
"I have to start by saying: your story is unbelievable. When I saw your interview with Jimmy Fallon, I was shocked. What has this journey been like for you?"
Jacob took a deep breath, knowing this question was coming.
"It's been intense. It's still hard to believe all this is happening. I spent years trying to survive, not knowing what the future held for me. And suddenly, an unexpected opportunity appeared."
Robin crossed her hands on the table.
"Can you tell us how you met Chad Stahelski?"
Jacob nodded.
"Sure. I was walking down the streets of Los Angeles, as I did every day, and I accidentally bumped into him." He could have ignored me, but instead, he invited me to lunch. We talked, and he mentioned he was looking for actors for an action movie. He asked me if I wanted to audition.
Robin's eyes widened.
"And you said yes right away?"
Jacob laughed.
"Well, I hesitated at first because it seemed too good to be true. But I had nothing to lose. So, I accepted the challenge."
Robin picked up a tablet and showed a clip from the John Wick trailer. The scene showed Jacob, in the role of John, walking through the rain with a cold, determined look.
"When we watch the trailer, it looks like you were born for this role. But you had no acting experience, right?"
Jacob shook his head.
"None. But Chad and the crew trained me intensely. I spent months learning martial arts, shooting tactics, and even driving for chase scenes."
Robin smiled.
"You really transformed into John Wick."
Jacob laughed.
"Let's just say I dedicated myself quite a bit."
Jacob's Difficult Past
Robin paused before continuing.
"Jacob, something that touched many people was your story before fame. You mentioned that you lost your parents young. Can you tell us more about that?"
The audience fell silent.
Jacob took a deep breath, feeling a tightness in his chest.
"My parents died when I was still a teenager. My father died in a car accident, and my mother lost her battle with cancer shortly after.
Robin nodded, his gaze filled with empathy.
"That must have been very difficult for you."
"It was, indeed," Jacob sighed. "Without them, I had to leave school early and look for work to support myself. But things weren't easy, and eventually, I ended up homeless."
The audience listened attentively.
"For a long time, my life was just about trying to survive. I slept wherever I could, ate whenever I could. I never imagined something like this would happen to me."
Robin touched his hand lightly.
"But now you're here."
Jacob smiled.
"Yes. And I hope my story shows that, however difficult life may be, there's always a chance for change."
The audience erupted in applause.
Closing and Reactions
Robin smiled and looked at the camera.
"Jacob Stewart, you're an inspiration. Thank you so much for being here today."
Jacob smiled.
"Thank you for the invitation."
"And for you at home, don't miss John Wick, which premieres in theaters in October!"
The audience applauded as the camera pulled back and the show went to commercial break.
When the studio lights went out, Robin turned to Jacob and held his hands.
"Jacob, I'm really rooting for you. Your story needs to be told."
Jacob smiled, feeling immense gratitude.
"Thank you, Robin. This means a lot to me."
He left the studio and picked up his phone. Twitter was buzzing again, and #JacobStewart continued to trend.
He smiled to himself.
His past was still part of who he was, but now, the future belonged to him.
Chapter 11 – The Interview with Ellen DeGeneres
February 10, 2014 – The Next Big Step
Jacob Stewart stood backstage at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, feeling that strange mix of excitement and nervousness. He had already been on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America, and now he was about to be interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres, one of the most charismatic hosts on American television.
In recent days, his popularity had continued to grow. After each interview, more and more people were talking about his story, about John Wick, and about how he was an example of overcoming adversity. Celebrities, directors, movie fans—everyone seemed fascinated by his journey.
Ellen was known for making interviews lighthearted and fun, so Jacob was prepared for something different from the more emotional tone of previous interviews. But at the same time, he knew she was also excellent at asking deep questions.
A production assistant approached.
"Jacob, we're ready for you."
Jacob took a deep breath and nodded.
"Let's go."
He adjusted his black suit, which was becoming his trademark, and headed for the stage entrance.
The Grand Entrance
Upbeat music filled the studio as Ellen DeGeneres smiled at the camera.
"Our next guest has one of the most incredible stories we've ever heard. He went from living on the streets to starring in one of the most anticipated action movies of the year. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Jacob Stewart!"
The audience erupted in applause as Jacob entered the stage with a big smile. He waved to the crowd and walked over to Ellen, who greeted him with a warm hug.
"Look at this stylish man!" said Ellen, pointing to Jacob's suit as they sat down.
Jacob laughed.
"I guess I'm obliged to wear a suit all the time now."
Ellen crossed her legs and smiled.
"You look amazing." And I have to say… his story is absolutely unbelievable. I watched his interviews with Jimmy Fallon and on Good Morning America, and I thought: I need to talk to this guy!
Jacob smiled.
— And now we're here.
— Yes! — Ellen turned to the audience. — For those who don't know, a year ago, this man was living on the streets of Los Angeles. Then he bumps into director Chad Stahelski, auditions for an action movie and… now he's the star of John Wick!
The audience applauded enthusiastically.
— It's crazy, isn't it? — said Jacob.
— It's completely crazy! — replied Ellen, laughing. — But tell me, what was that first moment like? When Chad Stahelski offered you the audition, did you believe it was real?
Jacob laughed and shook his head.
— Not at all. I thought it was a prank. I had no acting experience, I was living one day at a time… But he was very sincere and gave me this chance.
Ellen smiled.
— And you grabbed that chance with both hands.
— Exactly. I knew I couldn't waste this opportunity.
The Intense Training
Ellen picked up a tablet and showed some images of Jacob training in martial arts and tactical shooting.
— Okay, so after you got the role, you had to train like a professional assassin. What was that like?
Jacob laughed.
— It was exhausting. I trained in various martial arts, learned to shoot accurately, did intense physical training… It was a real hell.
— But it was worth it, right? — asked Ellen.
— Absolutely. Every second of pain was worth it when I saw the result on the screen.
Ellen looked at the audience.
— Okay, that means you now know how to fight and shoot like a hitman. Should I be worried?
Jacob smiled.
— Only if you try to steal my dog.
The audience erupted in laughter and applause.
The Difficult Past
Ellen then changed her tone, becoming a little more serious.
— Jacob, I know we've talked about this before, but I really want to understand… What was your life like before all this?
Jacob sighed, preparing to reminisce about his past.
— Well, as I mentioned, I lost my parents very early. My parents died in a car accident and my mother lost her battle with cancer. After that, my life turned upside down.
The audience fell silent, absorbing his words.
— Without family and without money, I tried to work, but it wasn't enough. Things got worse, and I ended up on the streets.
Ellen nodded, visibly touched.
— You spent years like that, right?
Jacob confirmed.
— Yes. Sleeping in parks, alleys, anywhere I could find a little safety.
Ellen held Jacob's hand for a moment.
— And now you're here. This is incredible.
Jacob smiled.
— I'm still processing all of this.
The Funny Moment
Ellen then picked up an envelope from her desk and smiled.
— Okay, now let's get to something fun. We asked some people on the team to describe you in one word. Do you want to hear it?
Jacob laughed.
— Sure!
Ellen opened the envelope and began reading
— First: Intense.
Jacob nodded.
— Makes sense.
— Second: Frighteningly good at fighting.
The audience laughed.
— Third: Luckiest man in the world.
Jacob chuckled.
— That's fair.
Ellen looked at the last paper and smiled.
— This is my favorite. "He looks like a professional assassin, but I just want to give him a hug."
The audience applauded and Jacob laughed.
— I accept the hug!
Ellen then stood up and hugged him, making the audience cheer.
Ellen's Gift
— Okay, Jacob, before we finish, I know you mentioned something in the interview with Jimmy Fallon… You've never had a dog, right?
Jacob frowned.
— Yes… I've never had one.
Ellen smiled.
— Well, I think that needs to change.
She snapped her fingers, and an assistant entered the stage holding a black Labrador puppy.
The audience went wild.
Jacob's eyes widened.
"Wait… is this for real?"
Ellen nodded.
"Yes! This little guy needs a home, and we think you'd be the perfect owner."
Jacob held the dog in his lap, visibly emotional.
"Oh my God… He's beautiful."
Ellen smiled.
"What will his name be?"
Jacob thought for a moment and smiled.
"I think I'll call him Lucky."
The audience applauded, and Ellen smiled.
"Perfect."
Closing and Impact of the Interview
Ellen turned to the camera.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Jacob Stewart! Don't miss John Wick, premiering in October!"
The audience gave a standing ovation as Jacob waved, holding Lucky in his arms. Behind the scenes, he felt a wave of gratitude wash over him.
His past was still a part of him, but now, he was building a future.
And he knew this was just the beginning.
