An uncomfortable silence stretched between the two, with Asher staying at the back while Xavier walked right in front.
Asher didn't understand what had caused Xavier's mood. He had been perfectly fine when they were leaving the hospital, so did something at the party suddenly snap inside him? Because at this point, Asher was finding it hard to believe the man standing close to him even had something like a heart. Xavier certainly didn't behave like someone who did.
And as for his family... well, Asher didn't feel bad for them, but that didn't mean he wasn't curious about what Xavier was going to do to them. Was it all because of him? And what exactly had his family done to make Xavier despise them so much? Because he could see the pure hate dancing in those emerald eyes.
