The arrival of Dawn in the Pokémon Center lobby, her hair gleaming and her pink-accented hat adjusted to perfection, effectively shattered the icy tension between Ash and Paul. She was a whirlwind of energy, completely ignoring the purple-clad boy as she grabbed Ash's arm.

"Ash, let's go! If we don't hurry, the Gym will close!" She was practically dragging him toward the exit, her distaste for Paul's "poker face" clear in every step.

Ash allowed himself to be led, offering a shrug to Brock, who followed with a grave expression. Paul stood alone for a moment before his pride got the better of him. He needed that badge, and he wanted to see just how "weak" this Gym Leader truly was. He followed at a distance, a silent shadow trailing the trio.

The Oreburgh Gym was unlike any Ash had seen. It wasn't a sleek building or a grand stadium; it was carved directly into the heart of a working coal mine. As they descended into the earth, the light of the afternoon sun was replaced by the amber glow of industrial lanterns and the rhythmic thud of machinery.

"It's so dark..." Dawn whispered, her bravado evaporating as the shadows deepened. She instinctively clung to Ash's arm.

"It's okay," Ash comforted her, his voice steady. "The arena is just ahead. Look, the lights are already on."

They reached a massive set of steel doors that led into a hollowed-out cavern. Standing there was a young man with a red hard hat and glasses, a polite but sharp spark in his eyes. This was Roark (Hyouta).

"Welcome, challengers," Roark said, snapping his fingers. Suddenly, the cavern was flooded with high-intensity floodlights, revealing a battlefield made of jagged rock and packed earth.

As Dawn and Brock took their seats in the stands—Dawn blushing as she finally realized she was still holding onto Ash—the referee stepped forward to announce the rules: a three-on-three match.

"Pidgeot, I choose you!" Ash shouted, releasing his veteran raptor.

In the stands, Dawn blinked. "Wait, I thought he was using the new team members? Why Pidgeot?"

Brock stroked his chin, glancing at Paul, who had taken a seat in the far corner of the bleachers. "I think Ash is making a point. He wants to show Paul what 'Gym Leader strength' really looks like when the kid gloves come off."

Roark looked up at the majestic Pidgeot, a slow smile spreading across his face. "A Kanto veteran? Then I won't insult you with a Geodude. Let's go, Aerodactyl!"

The air in the cavern seemed to vibrate as the ancient overlord materialized. It let out a roar that shook the very foundations of the mine. Paul's eyes widened. This wasn't the mid-level opponent his data had predicted. This Aerodactyl radiated a level of power comparable to his own Torterra.

"Pidgeot, Tailwind!" Ash commanded, seizing the initiative.

Pidgeot beat its wings with rhythmic force, summoning a powerful current of air that swirled around its body, drastically increasing its aerial maneuverability.

"Stone Edge!" Roark countered.

Aerodactyl roared, and jagged pillars of rock erupted from the ground, shattering into a thousand sharp projectiles that screamed toward the sky. But Pidgeot, bolstered by the Tailwind, danced through the debris like a leaf in a storm.

"Agility into Steel Wing!"

Pidgeot became a silver streak, its speed reaching a blurred peak. It vanished and reappeared directly in front of Aerodactyl, its wings glowing with a cold, metallic luster.

"Thunder Fang!" Roark didn't even try to dodge. He chose a brutal trade.

The impact was violent. Pidgeot's Steel Wing slammed into Aerodactyl's chest, but the ancient predator lunged forward, its jaws crackling with yellow electricity. It sank its teeth into Pidgeot's shoulder, a massive surge of current arcing through the bird's body.

"Pidgeot!" Ash yelled, his teeth grit. The battle had only just started, but the sheer intensity of the clash had already set the cavern on fire. Paul watched in stunned silence, his "weak Gym Leader" theory crumbling with every spark of lightning.
