Oreburgh City is a place where the present literally sits on top of the past. Hundreds of millions of years of geological pressure didn't just create the coal that fuels the region; it preserved the echoes of an ancient world. For the citizens here, unearthing a fossil is as common as finding a shiny stone, but for Ash and Brock, the real draw was the Oreburgh Museum's cutting-edge technology.

They wanted to see the Fossil Revival Machine—a device that bridges the gap between extinction and life. As an AI-minded architect, Ash was fascinated by the sheer technical leap required to reconstruct a living organism from a piece of rock.

"It's like seeing a Tyrannosaurus Rex walk the Earth again," Ash mused as they walked through the grand halls.

"Oh, Ash! I didn't expect to see you here so soon."

Roark approached them, his red hard hat replaced by a fresh one, but his polite smile remained unchanged. He explained that he pulled double duty as museum security and was happy to act as their personal guide.

"Are you kidding? We'd be honored," Ash said, accepting the offer. For the rest of the morning, they enjoyed a masterclass in Sinnoh's prehistory, with Roark explaining the intricacies of how fossils are cleaned and prepared for the revival process.

Meanwhile, Dawn was miles away in the mine district. She had been hit with a sudden wave of inspiration for her Contest training. She wanted to adapt the "Shaking Star" spiral movement she'd seen Aipom use, but apply it to her Pokémon's evasion.

"If Piplup can rotate while dodging, it won't just avoid the hit—it'll look beautiful doing it!" she told herself.

Her practice was interrupted by the sight of Paul. He was nearby, putting his team through his usual brutal drills. They exchanged cold snorts and stayed on opposite ends of the quarry, two different philosophies of training separated by a wall of coal dust.

As noon approached, the ground suddenly vibrated. Not from mining, but from an explosion at the museum.

"Dawn! Get back!"

Ash and Brock came skidding into the quarry, Pikachu crackling with alarm.

"What's going on?" Dawn asked, recalling her Buneary.

"Team Rocket," Brock panted, wiping sweat from his brow. "They tried to steal the Fossil Revival Machine. They blew the power grid, and a newly revived Aerodactyl escaped the laboratory! It's disoriented and aggressive!"

"How could they be so reckless?" Dawn gasped.

"They're everywhere," Ash said, his gaze fixed on the sky. "And look up—it found us."

A shadow larger than a Fearow swept over the quarry. A newly resurrected Aerodactyl screamed, its ancient instincts screaming that the humans below were either prey or rivals. It didn't wait for a greeting; it condensed a black-and-purple Hyper Beam in its maw and fired.

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt! Pidgeot, Whirlwind!"

Ash reacted with surgical speed. The combined electrical discharge and high-pressure wind detonated the beam mid-air, showering the quarry in purple sparks.

"Ash, are you going to catch it?" Dawn asked, seeing him reach for an empty ball.

"Roark spent years on this fossil," Ash said, his eyes narrowing as Aerodactyl dived for a Giga Impact. "I'm not letting his hard work fly away. Besides, I owe him for the tour! Pidgeot, take Pikachu up!"

Pidgeot ascended, weaving through the jagged coal pillars. Aerodactyl, sensing an intruder in its sky, accelerated into a spiral of kinetic energy.

"Double Team!"

Seven Pidgeots appeared in the air, confusing the ancient predator. As Aerodactyl tore through a shadow, the real Pidgeot banked sharply.

"Agility into Steel Wing!"

The crimson-crested bird became a silver bullet, slamming its reinforced wing into Aerodactyl's temple. The prehistoric overlord reeled, but Ash wasn't finished.

"Pikachu—Iron Tail!"

Pikachu leaped from Pidgeot's back. While mid-air, he concentrated his energy, his tail extending into a two-meter shimmering Behemoth Blade. He came down like a meteor, the glowing sword of light striking Aerodactyl squarely on the forehead.

The Aerodactyl, which had been alive for less than an hour, didn't stand a chance against the Pallet Town veteran. It plummeted toward the soft coal dust below, unconscious before it even hit the ground. Ash tossed the Poké Ball, and with a single click, the ancient sky was quiet once more.

"Consider the tour paid for," Ash muttered, picking up the ball.
