Chapter 9 - The Strongest Girl

That evening, as the light faded, the training chamber was quiet.

The young ones sat together... Ruo, Kent, Mira, Selene, and now Alya. The old ones had retired to their places. The Mysterious Person was nowhere to be seen.

Mira: "So hunters are really coming?"

Selene: "He said they would."

Kent: "He also said he'd command them. Make them serve us."

Ruo: "I believe him."

Alya: quietly, "I've seen what he can do. Four years. He never failed. Not once."

They sat in silence, the weight of coming events pressing down.

Then...

The World Tree trembled.

Not violently. Not dangerously. But noticeably. A shudder ran through its roots, through walls, through the very air.

Sage Cedric appeared at the entrance, his ancient eyes sharp.

Sage Cedric: "They are here."

Ruo: "Who?"

Sage Cedric: "The first hunters. Two of them. They have entered the world."

The young ones stood.

Kent: "Where?"

Sage Cedric: "The Valley of Echoes. They are searching."

Mira: "What do we do?"

Before anyone could answer, the shadows deepened.

The Mysterious Person stepped out of darkness. His black eyes were calm. His face showed nothing.

Mysterious Person: "You do nothing."

Ruo: "Nothing?"

Mysterious Person: "Not yet. They are hunters. They expect a fight. They expect resistance. They expect..." he paused, "...me."

Selene: "So what will you do?"

The Mysterious Person looked toward the distance...toward the Valley of Echoes.

Mysterious Person: "I will watch. I will learn. And when they find what they are looking for..." his black eyes seemed to deepen, "...they will find more than they bargained for."

He turned to leave.

Alya: "Will you fight them?"

The Mysterious Person: "I will not need to fight."

He vanished.

The young ones stood in silence.

Outside, the World Tree hummed.

And somewhere in the Valley of Echoes, two hunters moved through the mist, unaware that they were already being watched.

Unaware that they were already being chosen.

Three days had passed since the first hunters entered the Valley of Echoes.

The young ones trained, but their minds were elsewhere. Waiting. Watching. Wondering.

Ruo Kotaro stood at the center of the training chamber, blue lightning crackling around his fingertips. But his eyes kept drifting toward the shadows.

Kent Long noticed.

Kent: "You're distracted."

Ruo: "Aren't you?"

Kent: "He said he would handle them. I believe him."

Ruo: "I believe him too. But I still wonder."

Mira: approaching, "Wonder what?"

Ruo: "What's happening out there? Whether they've found him. Whether..."

The shadows deepened.

The Mysterious Person stepped out of darkness. His black eyes swept over them... calm, unreadable.

Mysterious Person: "The hunters have learned something."

Selene: "What?"

Mysterious Person: "They believe I am physically weak. That my stamina is limited. That if they can exhaust me , they can defeat me."

Mira: confused, "Weak? You?"

Mysterious Person: "My power is not my body. It is my will. my command, my techniques. My physical form has limits. They have observed this."

Kent: "Are they wrong?"

The Mysterious Person looked at him. Those black eyes. that expressionless face.

Mysterious Person: "They are not wrong. I have weaknesses like any being. The difference is..." he paused, "...I know mine. They do not know theirs."

Ruo: "So what happens now?"

Mysterious Person: "Now they will prepare. They will gather more hunters. They will plan. And then..." he paused, "...they will try again."

He looked toward Alya.

Mysterious Person: "Alya. Come."

Alya stepped forward, her eyes curious.

There was something about her that always seemed different...a subtle grace, a predatory stillness that others didn't have.

Alya: "Yes?"

The Mysterious Person's voice changed...not louder, but deeper. It responded in a way that made the young ones step back.

Mysterious Person: (telepathically) "It is time. Show them what you have learned."

Alya's eyes widened. Then she nodded.

Alya turned to face the group. Her posture shifted...more confident, more present.

Alya: "For four years, he trained me. Not just in combat. In things you've never seen."

She raised her hand. A training dummy across the chamber lifted into the air...without touching it.

Mira: gasped, "Telekinetic?"

Alya: "Telekinetic Path. One of them."

She lowered her hand. The dummy dropped.

Then she closed her eyes. When she opened them, they glowed faintly silver.

Selene: "What is that?"

Alya: "Soul Path. I can see the essence of living things. Their intentions. The truths."

Kent: "You can read minds?"

Alya: "Not minds. Souls. Different."

She looked toward the corner where insects skittered along the roots. She raised her hand again...and they stopped. Turned. Moved toward her in perfect formation.

Ruo: "You're controlling them?"

Alya: "Insect Manipulation. Part of the Enslavement Path."

She gestured, and a small creature hiding in the roots emerged...a forest cat, drawn to her call.

Alya: "Animal Manipulation. Also part of Enslavement."

Mira: staring, "You can control animals and insects?"

Alya: "I can control anything weaker than me. That's what Enslavement means."

Selene: quietly, "That's... that's terrifying."

Alya: smiling slightly, "That's what he trained me to be."

Saint Serene: her ancient eyes gleaming, "What is your stage, child?"

Alya: "Peak Queen."

Silence.

King Magnus: "Peak Queen? At fifteen?"

Alya: "The Invisible Land trains differently. Every day. Every night. Four years."

Sage Cedric: "And your paths?"

Alya: "All of them. Middle Grandmaster."

Malakor: almost smiling, "The strongest girl in the world. She says."

Alya: "Unofficially strongest. Officially..." she glanced at Kent, "...still unknown."

She looked at the Mysterious Person.

Alya: (telepathically) "Was that enough?"

Mysterious Person: (telepathically), "It was a beginning."

 Next day. Morning.

Sage Cedric stepped forward, his ancient eyes gleaming.

Sage Cedric: "If the hunters believe he is weak, they will prepare. But preparation without experience is useless."

King Magnus: "They need to see what they're facing."

Saint Serene: softly, "They need to understand."

Malakor: from his corner, "They need to be afraid."

Sage Cedric: "Exactly. So we will give them something to fear."

He turned to the group.

Sage Cedric: "A new friendly battle. But different this time."

Ruo: "Different how?"

Sage Cedric: "Everyone fights. Together. Against them."

He gestured toward Alya and Mysterious Person.

Ruo: "Us against them? The two of them?"

Sage Cedric: "The strongest girl in World Seventeen...unofficially...and the one who trained her. Yes."

Kent: "That's insane."

Alya: grinning, "Probably."

Mysterious Person: "It is necessary. The hunters need to see what they face. More importantly..." he looked at each of them, "...you need to see what you are capable of."

A young man stepped forward...barely older than Ruo and Kent, with curious eyes and an eager smile.

Finny: "I would like to participate."

Mira: "Who are you?"

Finny: grinning, "Finny. The newbie. Seventeen years old. Middle King stage."

Selene: "Middle King? That's impressive for seventeen."

Finny: "Strength Path, Initial Grandmaster. Space Path, Peak Master. Darkness path, Initial Grandmaster." He shrugged. "I'm still learning."

Monarch Long rumbled from behind.

Monarch Long: "As am I."

Sage Veyron: "We all will. Everyone."

Saint Serene: "Even me." She rose from her seat, leaning on her staff. "Wisdom does not require movement. But today, movement may be required."

Malakor: almost smiling, "This will be entertaining."

Team One: The Challengers.

Ruo kotaro: Middle Master (Blue Lightning).

KentLong: Initial Grandmaster (Light).

Mira: Initial Grandmaster (Healing).

Selene: Initial Grandmaster (Healing).

Sage Veyron Gale: Upper Great Grandmaster (Rule). nearing to break through Peak Great Grandmaster.

Saint Serene Lyra Gale: Peak Great Grandmaster (Wisdom). Nearing to break through the Initial Supreme Grandmaster.

Malakor the Fallen Ruler: Middle Great Grandmaster (Fire).

Sage Cedric Corvin: Peak Great GrandMaster (Wood). Nearing to break through Initial Supreme Grandmaster.

King Magnus Valdris: Upper Great Grandmaster (Water). Already break through Initial Supreme Grandmaster.

Finny: Middle king (Overall Grandmaster).

Monarch Long: Unknown.

Team Two: The Targets.

Alya: Peak Queen (Overall Grandmaster).

Mysterious Person: Peak Conqueror. Observer.

The training chamber had never been so full.

Eleven challengers faced two targets.

Ruo: "This is ridiculous."

Alya: smiling, "Probably."

Kent: "How do we even start?"

Mysterious Person: from beside Alya, "You can start by trying."

He stepped back, into the shadows. Not fighting. Observing.

Mira: "He's not fighting?"

Alya: "He doesn't need to."

She raised her hands.

The battle began.

Alya's Telekinesis swept through the chamber, lifting training dummies, roots, debris...hurling them at the challengers.

Malakor: laughing, "Finally! Something fun!"

Fire erupted from his palms, burning through the debris.

Sage Cedric's roots rose to shield the group.

King Magnus's Qi Path pressed down...but Alya's Soul Path saw it coming. She dodged before it landed.

Kent's light blazed. Ruo's lightning crackled. They combined a beam of brilliant energy.

Alya caught it with Telekinesis and hurled it back.

mira and Selene: together, "Heal and protect!"

Their Healing Path created barriers, mending wounds as they appeared.

Finny moved like a shadow, appearing and disappearing, his Space Path and Darkness Path combining. One moment he was here, the next there.

Monarch Long transformed partially... scales covering his arms, claws extending. He charged.

Alya's Enslavement Manipulation reached out, and for a moment, his dragon instincts responded. He hesitated.

That moment was enough.

Saint Serene's Stars lit the chamber, revealing Alya's Telekinesis ignored them, pushing through sheer force.

The battle raged.

Watching.

Learning.

choosing.

The battle had been going on for an hour.

Both sides were exhausted. Bruised. Breathing hard.

But Alya was still standing.

Ruo: qasping, "She's...incredible."

Kent: "She's not even tired."

Alya: smiling, "I'm tired. Just not showing it."

Mira: "That's cheating."

Alya: "That's training."

Then...

The World Tree shuddered.

Not from the battle. From outside.

Sage Cedric: his ancient eyes widening, "More hunters. A third group."

King Magnus: "Now?"

Sage Cedric: "They must have tracked the first group. Followed them here."

The chamber went quiet.

Malakor: "They dare enter the World Tree?"

Sage Cedric: "They dare."

The roots at the far end of the chamber began to part, forced open by external power.

Figures emerged.

Three hunters. Different from the first two. Stronger. More confident. Armed with weapons that hummed with dark energy.

The leader, a massive being with eyes like burning coals, stepped forward.

Hunters' Leader: "We've come for the first position. The blank name. The Mysterious Person."

He looked around the chamber, taking in the assembled fighters.

Hunters' Leader: "We heard you were weak. Physically. That your stamina is limited. That if we exhaust you, you fall." He smiled. "We brought enough to do just that."

King Magnus: stepping forward, "You will not touch him."

Hunters' Leader: "And who are you to stop us?"

King Magnus: "Someone who chose him."

The hunters laughed.

Hunters' Leader: "Chose him? He's nothing. A blank space on a board. A myth."

Alya: quietly, from behind, "He's more than a myth."

The hunters turned.

Hunters' Leader: "And who are you, little girl?"

Alya: "Someone he trained."

The hunters lunged.

Not at the Mysterious Person.

At Alya.

It happened fast.

Too fast.

The hunter's weapon, a blade that drank light, slashed toward Alya before anyone could react.

She tried to block with Telekinesis.

The blade cut through.

She tried to dodge with Soul Path.

The hunter anticipated.

The blade connected.

Alya screamed.

Blood sprayed across the chamber floor.

She fell.

Ruo: "ALYA!"

Kent: surging forward...

Too late.

The hunter raised his blade for the final strike.

And then...

The Abyss of Everything came.

The chamber went silent.

Not the silence of absence. The silence of presence. Of something so vast, so infinite, that sound itself dared not exist.

The Mysterious Person stepped out of the shadows.

But he was different.

His black eyes weren't just black. They were everything. Galaxies swirled in their depths. Stars were born and died in each pupil. The void of space and the fullness of creation existed simultaneously in his gaze.

The Abyss of Everything.

The hunters didn't scream. They couldn't. Their bodies began to change, not dying, but becoming. Becoming part of everything. Becoming stardust. Becoming memory. Becoming everything.

Hunters' Leader: "What...what is this?"

Mysterious Person: "The Abyss of Everything. You wanted to hunt me. So I will show you everything."

The hunter's arm dissolved into light. Then reformed. Then dissolved again.

Mysterious Person: "You will experience all of existence. Every joy. Every pain. Every moment of every being who has ever lived."

Hunters' Leader: "PLEASE..."

Mysterious Person: "And then you will experience nothing."

The hunters didn't die.

They reshaped.

Not erased. Not killed. Simply... returned to the everything from which they came.

When it was over, only the Mysterious Person remained.

He knelt beside Alya.

Mysterious Person: "You will not die."

Alya: weakly, "I know."

Mysterious Person: "I will not let you."

He lifted her...carefully, gently...cradling her in his arms.

Mysterious Person: "The Lake of Healing."

He vanished.
