Nyssa looked around in utter confusion. How was it that she could be seen? But, she wasn't part of this timeline…
And where the hell was Aveline?!
The sounds of the kitchen swelled again behind her and everything seemed to blur her senses. Nyssa stood frozen in place.
She was not invisible but was dressed exactly like the maids. So…they knew her here? Who was she here?
A tray was suddenly thrust into her hands and her eyes snapped upwards.
"Move!" a young servant hissed under her breath. "If Ma Sarai sees you standing still again, you'll sleep outside tonight."
Nyssa's fingers curled around the tray automatically. It was heavier than it looked, filled with porcelain plates trembling atop polished silver. Her heart began to pound.
"Dinner service!" Ma Sarai shouted. "Line up!"
The maids arranged themselves in two neat rows, with their heads lowered and trays balanced carefully.
