Chapter 40 - Chapter Forty

As Audrey's sleek Sapphire-blue Bugatti Veyron purred to a stop alongside the gleaming facade of the same upscale mall where Chioma and her group were shopping, it was as if a queen had descended upon her kingdom. Celine and Prince, meanwhile, sought their own adventure in a different downtown haven of luxury. Stepping out, Audrey's presence commanded attention—a vision of elegance wrapped in a stunning white dress, her dark hair cascading like a waterfall of midnight silk. Flawless makeup accentuated her delicate features, while diamond earrings sparkled like stars against the backdrop of her confident smile. With a luxury brand purse in hand, she moved with grace and allure, beckoning shoppers to follow as she glided towards Dior counter.

'Madam, the pink one will suit you perfectly,' the cheerful saleswoman suggested to Audrey. It was evident that Audrey's impressive appearance commanded respect and attention from those around her. After all, she exuded an aura of wealth and beauty. However, the saleswoman's demeanour would have been different if Audrey had been wearing an unbranded dress. In such a case, the saleswoman might have been indifferent and unenthusiastic, as they tended to only offer warmth and smiles to those donning luxury brands. Those dressed in normal attire often received cold faces, as the assumption was they couldn't afford luxury items and thus shouldn't touch anything in the store.

'No, I have plenty of pink dresses,' Audrey replied with a smile. 'I want this one,' she pointed to a stunning gold-coloured dress.

'But don't you like the pink dress I selected for you?' the saleswoman attempted to curry favour.

'I love it. It's beautiful. However, I didn't come here specifically for pinks and blues,' Audrey responded. 'I want that one too,' she added, indicating a gorgeous beige-coloured dress.

After Audrey finished trying on the dresses in the fitting room, the saleswoman carefully packaged them for her. Audrey made her payment, bid farewell to the Dior section, and proceeded to the Chanel counter, where she selected a few bags. With her purchases in hand, she gracefully descended the stairs, mindful of her long dress to avoid any mishaps. However, as she neared the last step, she accidentally stepped on her dress and nearly stumbled. Just like in a romantic movie, a strong arm swiftly encircled her waist, preventing her fall.

Audrey's curiosity was piqued as she looked up to see who had saved her. Her gaze met a pair of dark eyes and a warm smile.

'Are you all right, Miss?' Daniel asked, standing in front of her. He had noticed Audrey on the verge of stumbling while returning from the restroom to meet his group at the ice cream shop. They had planned to embark on a beautiful adventure but finally decided to buy some ice cream to enjoy on their journey, which was why Daniel and his group lingered on the mall premises instead of heading out after their eating and shopping. Perhaps it was fate that kept them lingering in the mall until this time. Reacting swiftly, Daniel had prevented her from falling, leaving Audrey grateful for his timely intervention. Curiosity arose within her, making her wonder about his identity. Daniel, dressed casually in a shirt and trousers he had acquired from a roadside stall, exuded a certain charm even in his modest attire. Despite not being wealthy, he possessed an undeniable appeal. His tall and handsome stature, accompanied by a pleasant cologne lingering in the air, captivated Audrey's attention.

'Yes, yes... I'm fine,' Audrey replied, expressing her gratitude. 'Thank you.'

'I'm glad to hear that,' Daniel smiled before turning to leave.

'Who could he be? Was he an angel sent from heaven? Or perhaps a paparazzo with a heart of gold, waiting to capture her most unglamorous moment? Audrey muttered as she stared at his back while he walked away. He was undeniably attractive. She couldn't help but wonder if he was already in a relationship and who the lucky girl might be. Taking a deep breath, she continued her stroll towards her car.

As she placed her purchases in the car and prepared to take the driver's seat, Audrey's eyes caught sight of Daniel at the mall's entrance. She paused, instantly recognising him among the bustling shoppers. His presence drew her attention like a magnet, vividly reminding her of the moment he had saved her from falling. Could he possibly be Chioma's partner? Audrey questioned herself as she noticed Chioma walking alongside him, sharing a joyful laugh. Then, her gaze shifted towards Chisom, who was walking behind them. Feeling a sense of relief upon seeing Chisom, Audrey considered that their outing might simply be a friendly shopping trip. However, a wave of unexpected emotions washed over her. Was she developing feelings for him? Suddenly, she found herself walking towards them.

'Audrey,' Chioma greeted with a smile.

Audrey nodded in response, offering a smile of her own.

'We went shopping... Big brother Daniel treated us today,' Chioma shared joyfully, savouring her delightful vanilla ice cream. 'He's Chisom's elder brother, and this is my big brother, Andrew,' she introduced them to Audrey.

As Audrey turned to Daniel, he smiled but remained silent. Audrey couldn't help but wonder why he hadn't asked if she was heading home. However, they were not in a relationship, so she shouldn't let such a silly thought bother her. Wanting to break the silence, she decided to share, 'He saved me from falling,' recounting the incident to Chioma and Chisom. They turned to look at Daniel in surprise. He hadn't mentioned anything about rescuing Audrey, so their expressions revealed a mix of surprise and delight.

'It was nothing,' Daniel said softly.

'I should get going,' Audrey said, turning towards her car and swiftly driving away.

'You saved goddess Audrey, and you didn't say a word about it?' Andrew teased Daniel.

'It's not a big deal. I would have helped anyone in that situation,' Daniel replied.

'Wow!' Andrew laughed. 'Daniel is now Abuja's James Bond.'

Chisom joined in the teasing, asking Daniel if he already had feelings for Audrey, their laughter filling the air. Chioma playfully intervened, smiling and urging them to stop teasing Daniel.

Pinching Daniel's nose in a playful manner, Andrew continued the banter before they all walked away together.

Leaving the mall behind, they effortlessly merged with the bustling Saturday shoppers, gracefully navigating the traffic like fish in a stream. The scene exuded beauty, complemented by the soft melody playing in the background.

Swiftly, they moved through the busy streets, skillfully maneuvering through the traffic. Seamlessly blending in with the vibrant Saturday shoppers, they became part of the bustling crowd. The sight was enchanting, with people immersed in their own stories and experiences. Sunlight glinted off shop windows, painting dazzling mosaics on the sidewalk. The sweet aroma of fresh bread from a nearby bakery mingled with the city's hum, accompanied by the fragrance of blooming flowers sold by an old woman with gentle eyes.

Adding to the atmosphere, a melodic song filled the air, its captivating notes swirling around them like autumn leaves caught in a breeze. It wasn't just a song; it was the city's heartbeat, resonating in perfect rhythm with their laughter and the joy of their shared adventure. Each step felt lighter, each smile brighter, fuelled by the simple pleasure of their day and the bond of friendship. The music seemed to dance with the rhythm of life, perfectly harmonisng with the scene unfolding before them, enhancing the joy and camaraderie they felt as they walked together.

Amidst the lively atmosphere and enchanting melody, they continued their path, savouring the simple pleasures of the day, bonded by friendship and the shared experience of a delightful outing.
